I wouldn't take that hometheater hifi review as some end-all be-all of reviews. It was one reviewer and that is it. The RSW-15 did superbly well when tested by Tom Nousaine, who tests distortion using strict THD limits.

Partly out of curiosity, yes. The RSW-15 and the RSW-12 have slightly different response signatures, so it will be interesting to see how much difference there is with ht/music. Together they can mate very well even so as you have witnessed.

No way in hell that a single Ultra is going to achieve reference levels of bass. Dustin B certainly does seem infatuated with SVS though (do you even own an SVS? you post more about SVS than Tom Vodhanel)

foresthum, I have offered plenty why the cutting of the cylinder is not good, my opinion. What have you offered to prove otherwise, absolutely nothing. Talking about your precious Ultra is nonsense. It is double the price of a PCi and does not have a built in amp (still looks ugly though, my opinion). The Earthquake/Sunfire type subs are compact subs that still punch well. Have you seen the Earthquake reviews in WSR magazine? I think not. I think you should just go back to the bathroom and enjoy your toilet rolls

eldric, Remember I said a good structural engineer will know, but you also need to know a lot about audio and cylindrical enclosures and low frequencies as well. Anyway I don't like the idea of cutting a hole in the cylinder to mount the amp, my opinion

TheEAR, that is the typical review that is not thought out. Anyone who can afford the Krell will easily take it over others, boxes and toilet paper roll subs alike. The Krell is like a Ferrari, who would not want it if they could afford it.

hwhatkins, I can see from your second reply that you still don't have a clue, unless you are naively suggesting that everyone share you opinion about what sounds good and what is right and what is wrong. You are certainly doing a good job of running around in circles. I have heard the PCi and RSW subs, and sorry but the PCi is not my cup of tea for sound and looks. I do like the RSW's though.

Will your dealer let you demo them at home? Remember that the RSW-15 is very musical, just as is the RSW-10

hwhatkins, Your post exposes you as knowing little with regards to structural engineering, and also you as a bad reader. Remember that I have listened to a PCi sub and it was not my cup of tea. I like the sound of the RSW subs. Maybe that is not appropriate for me to say, this being a damn KLIPSCH forum and all. And also remember that I said a good and knowledgable structural engineer will not want to cut a hole in a cylider. Maybe you think it is some wonderful thing, good for you. I don't. My opinion. If you are going to try to find fault with people's opinions, then good luck because you will just be running around in circles.

Are you looking more for music or movies? If I were you I would get 1 RSW-15, and save up and eventually get another RSW-15 later on (you could even try used, they are built very well)

TMarketer, That is more marketing BS from you. BOSE could claim the same thing, their speakers and subwoofers holding up, still working after years of playing, and satisfying thousands of customers. A built-in amp for a cylinder tube will hold together. What this does to sound quality is my concern.

All we have to go on is a owner/marketer who says that cutting a hole into his product for the amp makes no difference. I still don't buy it. The PCi has ok output, but still left something to be desired with sound quality and I wonder how much this has to do with the structural concerns of the built-in amp. I agree about the toilet tubes, but least Dr. H offers his VTF-3 and VTF-2 that does not belong in the bathroom with the other toilet paper rolls. How about trying an RSW-15 and if you aren't 100% satisfied, try something else (like Earthquake Supernova subs).

I stand by my words about it being a structural compromise. A good and knowledgable structural engineer would express concerns about integrity of the structure because the cylinder needs to be cut to hold the amp (you are not going to have the amp sticking way out of the cylinder duh).

Cutting a hole in a cylinder sub is a compromise of the structural integrity of the sub. A quick talk to any structural engineer and you will know. That is why the PCi and PC+ will never get my recommendation. Also I feel the black SVS's are ugly and the velvet cover was not good looking, my opinion.

I do not like the idea of cutting a hole in a cylinder based enclosure. I stand by that, and I know that other people feel the same way. That is my opinion And the SVS black cylinder subs are very ugly to me. That is also my opinion and I stand by that. I have heard your PCi sub. Not bad just not my cup of tea. I prefer the RSW sound to that, price differences aside obviously

The RSW-15 is a very clean sounding subwoofer and it has a very punchy sound. It has a huge aesthetic advantage over the SVS. Try out the RSW-15 first I also do not like the idea of building an amp onto a cylindrical enclosure like seen on the PCi and PC+ lines from SVS. It is one thing to stick an amp onto a box enclosure, but to stick an amp onto a cylinder enclosure requires physically cutting the cylinder. Just a thought

I agree. The RSW-15 does have a bit more punch than the VTF-3, while the VTF-3 plays a bit lower (however, I did not hear the VTF-3 in maximum output mode which may give punchier sound than it's normal mode). moon, please tell us how the RSW-15 sounds with the RSW-12. This combo should be sweet

I think that the RSW15 and Ultra will sound different The RSW15 has a clean sound and slick looks! The RSW15 will also probably match better with the RSW12 than any SVS. Put the RSW12 on top of the RSW15, then try an RSW15 alone, and see how that works.

www.hsuresearch.com looks, sound quality on music, high SPL for movies, flat response, they have it all I like the RSW subs for their clean sound and slick looks, especially RSW-15, but for some they are out of the price range If YOU like your RSW-12, then simply enjoy it.
