  1. Thank you very much for taking the time to measure, plot, and share, very much appreciated.

So, I see 1W at 1.25% THD,  5.5W at 5% for a fair amount of headroom, and a very nice looking frequency response extending both low and high.

Really want to try a similar EL34 SE amp in my system and compare to my reference amps.

It's kinda like speaker wire or power cords, most people will never be able to tell the difference, so if you can't hear it, is it really that big of a deal?

It's never a big deal until it is.  Like most every other new idea or mod I've stumbled across, was very skeptical at first, then begrudingly gave it a try to see what all the fuss was about, then regretted not trying earlier.

Following is a short list of things I've had to modify my thinking about:  Tube amps, Analog always, MP3s, dynamic range expanders, caps, caps, and more caps, crossover changes, variable L-pads, power line conditioning, and every single wire in my system, including power cords for my amps.

    Your mileage may vary....

  3. Hard to believe there is no dealer close to you in South Jersey or a pair of any used Heritage horn loaded speakers one could demo.  It would be very tough to ante up for a pair of LaScala AL5 without a demo, but then again their finer points will be hard to assess in a short demo.

I demoed a pair of LaScala AL5 a few weeks ago and was very impressed, they did not sound anything like the LaScalas I bought new in 1981 and played for 35 years.

  4. Still feeling my way around the various output transformers, which seem to be the most critical part in any transformer coupled amp.  My Fisher 500C had very hefty output transformers to support 30 wpc.  Should output transformers be larger ?  Smaller may be better ?  Goldilocks ?

Do smaller OPTs favor the high end and run warmer ?

  5. Side note:  Recently demoed the LaScala AL5 and Cornwall IV at my local dealer (odd there is a Klipsch dealer 3 miles from my house, but I live close to everything....)

On the way out had a quick look at the Focal Grande system ($250 K), it had it's own room to itself.  Had to resist the urge to poke one of the many drivers out in the open collecting dust.

  6. Yeah, but are these $250 K to $1 M systems really real world ?  Do any but the 1% have any hope of owning this stuff other than a chance one time listen ?  Is that what this hobby is all about ?

Fully realize everyone has a different approach to the quest, but why even look down that road ?

  7. ^^^ What he said.^^^  Getting familiar with the Klipsch sound over the years, realized my LaScala had absolutely no low bass, and very loud forward midrange.  Not what I was hoping for when I bought into the lively dynamic promise of super efficient horn loaded speakers.

After researching and attempting mods on my Heresy crossover, have come to realize a correction of the overly hot midrange goes a long way towards taming the sound.  I believe Fletcher Munson would approve....

  8. OK, so upon hearing this for the first time, wondered why it sounded so familiar:  Apparently a couple of members of the Turtles were among Zappa's band at the time.

And although we have jumped way far ahead to the climax of this album, live performance, it would behoove all to become familiar with this entire album, especially for the legendary Mud Shark episode very well retold here.

  9. Oh, well it used to be wet one edge of Discwasher brush with large plastic wood handle grip, three times around the record spinning, and then a quick dab of stylus tip with Audio Technica AT607 stylus cleaner in small pyramid shaped amber bottle.  Only then was Iron Man allowed to wreak his vengence.

  10. Interesting, the P39 is still prominently displayed on the Klipsch web page:

And Stereophile had a glowing review June 12, 2009.

Sadly, your experience with Klipsch Customer Service rings true, surprised you got a call, how long was the return time on that ? -- Nevermind, your post time stamp says 24 hours.
