  1. Going to be setting up stereo in a dedicated stereo room. I want to treat the room before upgrading my stereo any more. I know there are bass traps, diffusers, lots of stuff. I read the mirror trick about putting sound absorbing material on the side walls where the sound bounces off. What would be the best ideas to place other stuff. This seems to be had pretty cheap. http://www.deflex.co.uk/cgi-bin/deflexshop/deflexshop.cgi Any suggestions on what I should use on a limited budget? I will check audiogon for diffusers / bass traps. The stereo will be in a square room. I know the speakers are supposed to be about 3 feet from each wall. and if i'm correct the listening position should not be up against the back wall. maybe one foot in front of it? I'll get room dimensions later, not sure what they are now. Guessing 12X12 or something? Thanks guys.
  2. mark1101 posted: Check out a band called the "Swingin Lovers". A jazz/blues band reminiscent of the big band era but with a modern spin. All young guys (nice horn section), very intoxicating horns/vocals/standup bass (and I'm a rocker). I saw these guys at the Meridian Hotel in Paris the second week in May. http://www.swinginlovers.com/ I grabbed their CD while I was there, and I keep playing it over and over. Lots of short songs that end too soon. There CD puts the Klipsch horns through their paces. You will be thrilled to pick this CD up. I forgot about the search function
  3. I remember someone here talking about swingin lovers cd a few months back. I wanted to know if they still like it and think its still worth getting? I went to go buy it & my cd salesman couldn't find it. I was wondering if you knew the cd number and label or anything more specific. Thanks, Justin
  4. http://www.decware.com/SACD/sacd.htm dec-685 it's around 600 bucks. Buy the cd player now for 250. Then later when you get more cash get it upgraded. I think this is one of the best deals out there ATM... Not that I'm an expert or anything
  5. I have a 250 2-stroke dirt bike thats been bored over that would kick anythings butt... 5th gear wheelies, plus you can hear it for about 2-3 miles cause my exhaust doesn't mount properly.
  6. all my speakers and components are wireless. They use bluetooth. So I have no sound quality loss as the signal doesn't pass thru any wires.
  7. Thats one of those moments you'd give anything to have recorded
  8. I just wanted to tell everyone in the forum thanks, for being so helpful with newbies like me Especially Craig which walked me through troubleshooting my amp last night. Lots of people would be lost without the gurus here. So thanks again, Justin
  9. So if I were to use a block for added weight... which I will probalby need, the block would go between the balls and the bottom most component? or between the two components. concrete, maple, does it matter what I use?
  10. It would be best to get a 40 pound load, with 4 green tennis balls right? So 4 tennis balls on bottom, cd player sitting on top. Then power amp directly on top of cd player would be okay?
  11. http://www.mapleshaderecords.com/tweaks/cones.php bike tire = less vibrations from outside... brass spike = less vibrations from inside? There are some pretty neat things at mapleshade. These are supposed to beat black diamond and others what do you guys think?
  12. Yeah, Stevie is great! Is there any of those with an excellent sound quality, something I can show off my new system with, as well as really enjoy? Has anyone here ever listened to Acoustic Alchemy? I recommend them very highly. I've only heard one cd of theres, so if anyone here has a personal favorite I'll go pick it up!
  13. hehe. I love SRV and have tons of his cds. Is there any of his cds or sacds that have an exceptional sound quality? On a side note I love tin pan alley, rivera paradise, little wing and acronyms... which isn't a srv song, but makes a funny post subject!
  14. What does everyone here think about the decware, has anyone heard it? I've done reading and looking and for everyone interested heres a list. Right now if I bought one I would get the decware. It can play dvd video, mp3 cd's, sacds (i think dsd sacds) correct me if I'm wrong. How do you think the decware would hold up to music hall maverick? For half the price, i think it would have same or better sound. When paired up with the 24/192KHz DAC, this tube output stage makes this player into a true audiophile source.
  15. any particular dream theater. or is awake your favorite? -Justin
  16. Great, I can't wait to get my hands on a couple of DSD cd's. Thanks for the reassurance on the 333. It's not the best sony unit, but I think I will be more than happy with it. A HUGE upgrade for me. -Justin
  17. I am going to get Arttos Sony C333ES. I just PM'd him. I read a review on the unit and they were playing one and said it sounded better, thats what got me curious -justin
  18. Does this really make a big difference? DSD, that is. I read a review saying it was great. If so I will have to pick up a dsd sacd title and try it out. -justin
  19. I may have, I will re-read the book I got on it one more time. It should be in there. Thanks, Justin
  20. Sounds good, I just didn't want to fry anything! I also noticed that when I move the preamp around I can hear something inside moving around. Is it just a loose wire, or is it something I should check out. Everything came in perfect, thanks for everything! Also do you have anything you've put together, like a walk through to bias the tubes on my dynaco poweramp? Do I ever need to check the tubes on the preamp? -Justin
  21. I just bought a mapltree ultra 4a preamp from Craig. On the unit it has two things in the middle that aren't tubes. If i was at home i would give a better description. you can see them in this picture: http://hollowstate.netfirms.com/ultra4.htm they each have a wire coming off the back of them that is connected to some sort of connector. It reminds me of how an fm antenna in your car looks like. What is this and what do I do with it!! LOL thanks guys as always =) -Justin
  22. I read up on this about a year ago. I was wondering if views had changed. From the jacks leaving the back of my tube power amp, i have two wires in them. One goes to high speaker input, and the other into the low speaker input. From what I've read it clears up a few sound issues. Any one disagree?
  23. In your opinion did the cd or dvd have better sound quality?
