  1. Awesome ingenuity, teamwork and perseverance demonstrated here today. Hurrah!
  2. Thanks OO1 - the person I purchased the 12's from said they came out of Heresy's and to me they look exactly like Eminence K-22's (but are not stamped with "K-22"). They are stamped with a very cryptic string of alpha-numerics: '12QPHE8AX' and also '67 - 7945'. Do you think that they are correct for Heresy's? Here are some pics.
  3. So, here is some more info on the behavior of the amp: last time I fiddled with it (and spent quite a bit of time getting DeOxit into the controls) - after that, it was still cutting out sporadically and I started looking for other possible causes. That's been probably 10 months ago or more and today, I repeated pretty much the same routine (DeOxit) and really worked all of the controls on the front after spraying with DeOxit.....I think I did a less than effective job the first time.......after doing that today, I wired in some speakers and it's no longer cutting out sporadically - but it won't play both channels in Stereo mode or Reverse Mode. In the Pic I've attached, I've red boxed a knob that these L-11's have that has 3 settings: MONO, STEREO AND REV. Both channels will now *only* play when in MONO mode. When I switch to Stereo, Right channel only, Switch it to Rev. and Left channel only. This is totally new behavior since I last did troubleshooting on it. So, if the relays weren't working as designed or failing to react properly part of the time, I think I'd be hearing it cut out still - and for some reason, that symptom is gone. Or, Is it possible that one of the Relays is causing it to not play Stereo?
  4. Yep, when this issue first started, first thing I did was get some DeOxit into the controls. Sadly, that did not fix the issue. That's when I began to research other possible causes.....and eventually landed on Relays. If I do manage to fix this - it will, I assure you, be solely due to Blind Beginner's Luck.
  5. Understood - definitely going to look at it carefully and see what wiggle room I have if I take out all of the associated screws on the terminals and the relays.
  6. Appreciate the info - any further info or description of "decorator model"? Guessing: maybe unfinished speakers to allow for custom painting/staining for Interior Design matching or something like that?
  7. You folks are awesome in providing all of this helpful info to me. I really appreciate it. I believe that the best course is to remove the stock relays - and attempt to refurbish/clean/restore them as MC39693 and henry4841 suggest. I want to believe that they are just old and corroded and can be brought back to good working condition. If not, I'll be looking for replacements. Here are a few pics of the area and relays - it's a maze of multi-colored wires that will be very difficult to disconnect and resolder (for me) but I'm going to give it a shot. Also, as you guessed billybob - there are two fuses situated near the terminals and relays - both are good/not blown. I get sound through both channels - but right channel cuts out quite a bit and sometimes left. Truth of the matter is - I'm a long way from knowledgeable about electronics this complex - so, there might be multiple problems - but I don't think it's going to hurt at all to refurbish these relays. Then see what she sounds like.
  8. billybob - thanks for the response and helpful info! I will see what they might have. It's a small victory this morning - but I just managed to get a new power indicator bulb soldered into the L-11 and it's good to see it light up at power on again.
  9. Hello. I am trying to determine if there are any drop in replacement speaker relay units for this old and incredible Japanese Amplifier. It needs to be gone over completely and restored, something which I don't have the knowledge or skill to do - but I have come to believe that the main problem is that one or both of the speaker relays are malfunctioning. It powers on and plays but the right channel cuts out sporadically and also the left but more rarely. Anyone know anything about this that you might be able to share with me? I believe that the relays in some of these old amps might also be able to be refurbished - but I'm not sure. If I could remove them, perhaps cleaning the contacts might make them work correctly again. If I could find a tech to work on this Amp, I might be inclined to ship it to them to have it restored. It's a MONSTER - weighs about 35 lbs. Thanks for any feedback, advice or comments.
  10. Thanks. And, I do appreciate that.
  11. I'm already prone to hoarding.....sugar coated by the term: "collecting" - so, I was bound to find this site eventually. : > )
  12. Thanks jjptkd, I will give that info that you provided a read through. Appreciate it.
  13. jimjimbo - thanks for the quick response and info. I have just this week begun to set about restoring these - starting with unloading everything from the cab and sanding/painting. The original K-22's were mostly destroyed when I bought these at a garage sale in Shawnee, KS back in 95 or 96. I replaced them first with some type of 12 that a electronics shop recommended - and those didn't last but for about 6 years. I have just purchased a set of 1979 Eminence 12's that I think are correct - as the seller said they came out of Heresy's - but they are not stamped K-22 anywhere. Will know more when I get them. Regarding Crites - yes, I found that site a couple of years back and I know that they have quality replacement parts for these Heresy's. Thanks again.
  14. Hello - These Heresy's that I have don't look like any others I've seen anywhere. I'm guessing they were possibly modified/painted? They have no grilles, and the badge does not have the PWK icon/logo....just "klipsch" in all lower case. Serial # stamped into cab on one is '49R268' - which I think dates them to 1977. The 2nd one is 'R' as well, but non-sequential to the first. They have the "E" type crossovers. The woofers are non-original (I would be embarrassed to tell you folks what I have in there at the moment, so, gonna skip that info). Also, the paper spec tags glued to the back are only partially filled out - only hand written info is "TESTED" with someone's signature. Thanks and I look forward to info on these. I've had them since about 1996.
  15. Howdy. Shawn in Pearl, MS. Brand spanking newbie.....so happy to have found this forum people.......just wish I had landed on the site many years ago. Owner of a much loved pair of "R" era Heresy's that I picked up at a garage sale waaaaaayyyyyy back in 1996 I think....$60 dollars for the pair, beat up a bit and the K22s were shredded by kids or a cat, but otherwise original and funtional. I will never forget hearing them for the first time.....The Police, Zenyatta Mondatta album, vinyl, through a Pioneer solid state amp circa 1980s I think. Even in their semi-delapidated state, I had never heard such clear and accurate frequency representation and separation. Of all the audio gear that has come and gone in my life since, I have kept the Heresy's. Wanted to say Hello and share my probably pretty typical story with you folks........more to come from me as I am now in the process of restoring them and will want and need advice from experts on this forum. Thanks.
  16. Michael - these are really impressive and for their age look to be in amazing condition. Regarding price - I personally believe that they are worth *exactly* what someone is willing to pay for them. Good luck in selling them.
