  1. Here is the best position, x-over, and level that I can get. I ran a ton of freqs (117 I think) to see if any of those peaks/nulls were singular occurances. So I looked for a wide freq range peak that may need taking down...but again I how flat of a response is "good" It all depends on the perspective/height of the graph as to how "flat" it is. So what do you think??
  2. Attached is my latest graph with these changes: 1. Set up video camera and monitor in next room to avoid my body reflections (mainly saw + or - 5dB on some higher freqs) yep I am a freak. 2. Set phase knob on SVS to proper setting to match the RF3-II's. Seems like a smoother curve, I know I am running pretty hot below 50Hz but I like my clothes to flap during LFE. Here is what I would like to calm down -- 56-100Hz that peak would be nice to level off some as it is more noticable during movies 125-200Hz that is a noticable null that I would love to lessen. I am going to try some sub scootin' to see if that helps (closer/away from corner) Any advice other than this? Thanks
  3. hmmm, Thanks John, there is more to this game than I thought, I will have to experiment with how close the mains are to the back wall. The SVS has a phase knob that I can toy with, but will turning it effect the whole sub-spectrum of freqs? IOW, will I have to re-run the freqs for the sub again each time I move the phase?
  4. Ok, here is the correct (I hope) graph, done with only my mains and sub. I am running the sub a little higher for HT. So how does it look? Concerns at 100Hz or maybe around 300Hz?? Thanks in advance!
  5. Thanks guys, so now I have just run the freqs again but: 1. I set 1000Hz at 75dB (easier on the ears too) 2. I only output through the 2 fronts and sub I am putting the graph together now. John, I do not follow about the distances and freqs. I have attached a sketch of my setup including all distances. I will post the graph in a few, but in the meantime, do I need to worry about any of these distances?
  6. I got my sweaty hands on a RS analog SPL meter today and eagerly took measurements to calibrate my new SVS w/Klipsch's....now I got a cool graph and no clue what to do next. Normal graph? Bad peaks/nulls? I just dunno. I did: Slow response, C weight, at sweet spot, see below for speaks/amp, set my ref level to 00 and leveled all to 75dB using test tones, speaks to small, LFE cut at 80Hz, disabled SVS x-over, added in correction factors, and now what?? Do I need a BFD/EQ? It feels like I am missing some ranges but this was before I calibrated with the new sub, can you tell if I need to calm down some of those peaks? Thanks again guys.
  7. Barefoot eh? My brother's friend's sister once dated this guy who's uncle's best friend's son went out around 4am and showered a neighbors yard with several boxes of staight pins. I am sure they rust too...horrible that guy was...horrible.
  8. sweat sweat...whew I can pull myself together now, thanks guys for the help. I was worried that I might have to send back a speaker. I guess it isn't a bad thing when your ref's are so clear you complain about the movies effects Back to the Matrix I... and bruins stop tempting me to try out some 7's, I am still recovering from the SVS buy.
  9. Thanks Vladi, I knew it was a stab in the dark to find someone willing, with the speaker, and the DVD to try that out. Again I appreciate it. Another note about that passage, I noticed it when I was playing loud, but then tried it lower and still there...if not on the DVD, I wonder if the RC3 II may have a problem w/that freq?? I hope that you find it too so I can just be angry at the mastering group at Lucas Film
  10. I have my RS3 II's mounted 78" from floor to bottom of the speaker housing. I didn't go as low because they really stood out like sore thumbs when they were around 67" (I also placed them on stuff to simulate the various heights and noticed no difference from ear level up to 7') I think the RS's are so wide you have some room to play with them. As far as back/center back surrounds, I am still fighting over which to get. RC3 II (if I can find one)-hard to mount above rear seating RS3 II -not sure I will really tell a difference with 3 of these so close I dunno, not to worried about it until 6.1/ES/EX is more mainstream DVD
  11. I catch this horrible noise that comes from my center RC3 II. Can you check this out too and tell me if it is my speaker or if it is in the soundtrack of the movie. I can't tell for sure. I also haven't noticed it in other movies. DVD Star Wars Episode II Chapter 3 Return to Coruscant Time 00:02:29 to 00:02:30 After the guy says "We are making our final approach to Coruscant" and when the ship passes under, I hear a "gritty/harsh" distorted sound from the center. I think it is on the movie this way, but I would love to hear from some more owners so I am not worrying myself over nothing. Thanks in advance for the help and extra effort in this one!!
  12. UNBELIEVABLE I have been slaughtering and butchering my Klipsch's with a cheap sub. I just hooked up my SVS 20-39 PC Plus...no set up or config Words can't describe it, in a 2000 cu ft room, with 2 large openings, just one SVS fills the room with bass that one minute shakes the filaments in my lightbulbs and drops my jaw, then bass that is in my pants, shirt, chest, but not in my ears. It is just amazing what that sub brings to my HT table. I could go on and on, but will just say that a couple of hours ago I didn't even imagine sound like this existed...much like when I brought home my Klipsh's. That feeling of amazement and wonder that runs chill bumps all over you, knowing you have entered a different realm of sound reproduction. I have found that feeling again with my SVS, it is just shame on me for letting my old subs mingle with my Klipsch's. Thank you Klipsch for my son Reference Thank you SVS for my chubby son PC Plus who is out of control My Family is complete RF3 II RC3 II RS3 II SVS 20-39PC Plus Denon AVR 2803
  13. my sub is sitting in a truck no more than 30 minutes from my house....yet the delivery must happen tomorrow. I wonder if I could cut a deal with the night staff at UPS....hmmm
  14. So I just ordered a sub online yesterday, and I have been checking the UPS tracking website almost every hour. As of 12:39am it is in PA. It is 1:41am here. Am I the only nut that would set my alarm to 2,3,4,5, and 6am just to see where my newest family member is located? If UPS personnel are reading this on their break, please be gentle with him, use the hand truck with care. He is very sensitive. My love has become my sickness... 15. I have heard you can upgrade and get a cd player built right in! ...and to think I bought all those seperates and speakers when I could have gotten it all in one slim plastic case. You don't even need speaker wire or cables!!! I am a sucker...what was I thinking? RF3 II RC3 II RS3 II SVS 20-39PC+ (T-minus 36 hours) Denon AVR 2803
  16. I am convinced that folks go into an "electronics" store and start looking at speakers, not really doing their homework on acoustics, they stumble around big towers and bookshelfs as I once did, thinking this sounds good, so does this...until they hit the shiny marketing prodigy of a Bo$e display. Neatly set up and oh so small, it sounds the same as the others at such a limited volume (since they can't turn it up) and WOW look at that price tag! We must be at the "high end" audio section. Now this is what real audiophiles buy. The rest is a sad history for those who stop their research and buy what seems to be the best. I am just glad that I headed into a real specialty audio dealer and ran into the Klipsch name. It just takes time to read, listen, and learn that you should be paying for a superior product, not just a name. If you are reading this and are worried about dropping some cash for a set of Klipsch's, I am the tightest man around, and the money is definitely well worth these speakers. I have finally found a set that I can afford that I have yet to think "I wish I had something better" I actually came out of a movie theatre this weekend grumbling that my HT was better that that crap they had behind the screen. I vowed to wait till movies hit DVD rather that sit through a torture session put on by those bad speakers.
  17. James, I just ordered a 20-39PC+ SVS today. I too struggled with which one to buy. So I sent a rough room sketch with all dimensions to the tech dept at SVS and told them that I wanted mainly HT performance with loads of bass. I was first shocked they didn't try to sell me the most $$ sub, instead they gave me some great feedback on which sub and why it was a good fit for my room. On the side, I can't wait to get a sub in here that will keep up with these Klipsch Ref 3 II's (for under a 1000 bucks!) It is worth the effort to sketch out your room on a simple drawing program and shoot it to the guys at SVS. They are great to work with and fast in their response. RF3 II RC3 II RS3 II soon a 20-39PC+
  18. Dark, I have the almost identical setup as you (minus the 20-39PC+ I am ordering today) and just wanted to ask you about your testing. Not being too familiar with checking my room response, are you simply measuring dB's at different freq's? That is where I assume you found your null. My limited understanding is that an EQ will only flatten out peaks in response--not fill nulls. That aside, how do you like that sub with your Ref 3's?
  19. theEar and hwatkins, Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate you guys sharing the experiences w/subs with everyone. I sent TomV my dimensions and he gave me a recommendation of the 20-39PC+. I am excited to finally get a sub in here that will keep up with my R3 II set and come in under $1000. If I am half as satisfied with the sub as I was when I first hooked up the reference's, I will be a happy man. Thanks again and thanks to Klipsch for hosting a competition friendly forum. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- RF3 II front RC3 II center RS3 II surround Denon 2803 2 very sad subs being replaced by SVS 20-39PC+
  20. Ahhh, that explains volumes. Thanks for that info guys, the sub I have now must peak at several different freqs, I can tell by the sound, but just never measured. A definite add on to the new sub when I finally buy it and measure the room effects. So what is the inside track on these AV15's? Frank is replacing his SVS Ultra with one and that alone has peaked my interests. I just don't know about trying the DIY...I might rather drop the extra $$ and not worry about working out the kinks in my own box/ports/bracing etc.
  21. The forum is about subwoofers, both passive and active. So yes feel free. I do have a question about your CS sub. I have been gathering feedback from SVS owners about their cylinder subs. I hadn't thought about the CS line, but looked more at the Ultra and CS+. In your experience, have you found the limit to the CS? In other words, at anypoint have you thought "I should have gone with the CS+ or Ultra"? I am steering away from the CS just because I would rather spend the extra $$ instead of getting something nice, but living with a limit to how loud I can go. So I would like to hear your thoughts on the CS. Thanks.

In homes of people who never heard Aerial,Velodyne HGS18 and Revel B15's LOL Trust me with all the SVS talk I can clearly see you people never heard competent non SVS subs.Sad I like SVS too but its not the only pick, there are many others. ---------------- TheEar, My problem is not hearing competent non SVS subs--Sad indeed. But let me ask this, if I am looking to drop 600-900 bucks for a sub, I thought the SVS was the best for that $$ range, saving the Velo's, Revel's, and others for the deeper pockets. Is that a correct statement? Thanks.
  23. mmmm, more equipment.... I am left clueless on how it could get cleaner than having the SVS Ultra hot water heater and the same set of refs that I have. can you give me an idea on how the BFD improved your system? I feel better about the CS+ hearing that from Frankie. Anyone else have a CS+ and want to share some negative comments on it's performance?
  24. Thanks Frankie, I do appreciate the advice. So you are comparing the TV-12 and the dB-12 drivers I assume, so with both of these, did you ever feel that your dB-12 was "straining" to hit the bass? I like my Ref 3 II's because I never feel like I am straining the speaker to hit the volumes that I want. I am just afraid that I will get the CS+ and find a limit when the wife is away and I am watching movies at ref levels (or above)... You know the feeling....everything is great, your wrapped up in the movie, and just as the cave troll in LOTR drops his club--the sub becomes very artificial and the moment is gone, and your left grumbling to yourself that you need a better sub. Did you ever get that w/the dB-12? or just move up to the ultra for the TV-12 upgrade? A side note: What does your BFD do for you...I thought they were for mic feedback?? Thanks again Frankie. I welcome other comments too.
  25. I have been rubbing my head over the addition of either of these 2 subs and have looked at a lot of threads regarding them - but since the PB2+ came into play, I noticed that most everyone adding in the big PB2+ has the big horns like La Scalas, I have the following: RF3 II Fronts RC3 II Center RS3 II Surrounds Embarassing 12" Subs that don't keep up I like the reviews on the CS Ultra and was pretty set on getting one for my 18x14 foot room. But then the idea of the PB2+ and the CS+ matched driver started making me think about the CS+ cylinder. Here again comes the driver discussion. Bottom line: Anyone who has heard both the CS+ and Ultra, is the step up to the ultra worth the 300 bucks? I want HT bass that literally makes me curl up in a fetal position under my coffee table but yet doesn't run over my Reference 3 II's. Think I would be happy with the CS+???
