  1. This is only going to be for 2 channel, and I probably won't use a sub, i've listened to them a bunch of times and found that i like them better than the rf-5's, i'll be hooking it up to all tubes, the only thing that worry's me is that having really sensitive speakers with an active pre-amp is the hum that may come with it. But all in all they will be hooked up to preety decent set-up or one that would match with what i have nicley. They will be going into 1 of 2 rooms. They will either be in a room that is 20 by 15, or a room that is 10 by 15.... which is going to be the more likley case. To go along with the comment about Best Buy.... Boy what the hell are you thinking?!?!?!?!? and the quintets to say the least they are only used of home theater. Since tweeter doesn't carry klipsch anymore I am rather far away from any refrence line. Although I am thirty seconds away from a circuit, best buy, grants, tweeter, and coming soon Fry's. Can you believe that more or less all of the top selling electronics retailers all literally down the street from me and none sell refrence. Anyways my budget for my speakers is between 500-700.
  2. I actually already bid an a pair of rf-3's on ebay, but I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts as to buying a new set of speakers I would like to hear anyone's input. I definatly want a decent set of floor speakers and something around the price of the rf-3's would be very ideal. They will be going in a preety small room but will be used heavly. I really like the rf-3's so that seemed to be ideal. anything bigger would probably sound worse because the room they are going into is preety small. They are going to be used with music only.
  3. I know that this isn't the place for it, but before i put them up on ebay i figure that i would offer them to anyone here first to see if anyone else was interested in finishing my project. Basically they are a 1982 2 way speakers with a basic cross over. 2 coils a cap and a resistor. The caps and the resistors have been replaced and the crossovers rebuilt. They have been refinished with out a gloss coat, but they are ready for it. They have been rewired with monster xp cable, not the best but better than factory, they still have the original foam. The only problem is that the 8' woofer is gone. When they were given to me all I got were the baskets so thats all thats in there right now, but the tweeters are still intact not blown and functional, Also the grills were missing but i rebuilt a set of grills from stuff i have laying around. Basically I only want $20.00 for them, I just want them out of my house, But i'll package them and send them via ups, write me back if you are interested. I have pics.
  4. BigBusa- I have to say one thing. H.H. Scott just owned you because everything he said is true, and I know that for a fact, and if you want charts and notes on all of that you let me know and I'll have them faxed. But you do have your own opinion.......... -Doc
  5. I recently went down the road of tubes, and as a heads up its very expensive. I bought 2 kits and I will be building them myself, and both of my kits were over $1000, of course this is brand new stuff, so maybe vintage could be better, but remember unless you buy f.e.t.'s, m.o.s.f.e.t.'s, or i.g.f.e.t.'s you will be getting distortion along with all of your other parts etc, you can buy basic tubes that have 0% distortion i think the ag5 tubes are 0% thd..... thats why I went to tubes, the clean sound, but also with tubes the gain is what is important not wattage, and with tubes if you buy an amp and a pre-amp about 75% of your gain comes from your pre-amp if it is active, and on really sensitive speakers like your la-scala's having an active pre-amp can produce some noise in the background, there-fore its wise to upgrade your power-supply and your power cords with teflon-tape or even pvc insulation with magnetic shielding to reduce the background noise, there is a lot more that goes along with tubes than ss, as i have learned already....... and there is plenty of reading as well..........
  6. I think that the easiest way to beat your problem with out soldering and making something would be to buy flex pins, wich would more or less terminate your speaker wire into a more managble gage to fit it
  7. thanks, well i think that i could get both pairs in my room.... the reason that i am going to be buyin them is because i get an incredible discount on the synergy speaker line now... you just got to love the employee acommadations programs.... i don't know exactly how it works but we will see if klipsch will let me do that.
  8. I mostly listen to classic rock, i.e. led zep, pink, old metallica, jimi, stuff like that sorry about the double post I could also build my own casing, but if one was supplied that would be nice just to reduce vibrating and what not, but if you feel that there is an amp or pre-amp that is jsut amazing and doesn't come with a case i would probably do that... i really just want really really clean sound.....
  9. I do not need a phono input at all, and I do have all the tools and materials needed, I would much rather have something that performs awesome than looks good. on my pre-amp I want like 2 to 3 inputs, an on/off switch, and volume control... the power: here is the thing, I am willing to give up power if its going to have a loxer thd and a higher s/n... but something around 25 x 2 would be great (Tubes Only).. and right now in my bedroom i have the quintets and i have a set of sf-2's on te b speakers of an onkyo reciever so my intent is to move the sf-2's off the b speakers on to this new set up... this is jsut for my bedroom
  10. if its a full kit that has all of the casing and everything I would like to spend about 1300 to 1500 for both amp and pre-amp thanks d
  11. When I go back to school next fall, I will have to build something in my class's, have already decided that I am going to build an amp and pre-amp.... tubes all the way, no SS!!! anyways what do you think of this pre-amp? http://www.transcendentsound.com/preamp%20kit.htm please check it out and let me know what you think.... I havn't decided what kind of amp to build yet, there was a valve kit that was awesome..... but that would be very costly and I would like to keep it some what cost efficient, mostly because I will never have heard how this stuff sounds until after its done and hooked up..... but from what I have read.... a good valve kit is the best thing you can get.... any personal recomendations would be awesome! thanks
  12. I would go with Onkyo soley because to me they don't seem as much of a corp as HK. HK owns JBL and Infinity, and they seem to be more aimed to mass marketing, and when that is done quality is lost a lot of times. But at the same time Onkyo owns Integra, all of my SS is Onkyo, but I do have an HK DVD player that is great. The worst aspect of Onkyo is the fact that they designed all of the Bose life style system amps, and there crappy "power bass module"...... I would hear them both out........
  13. thank you for the advice, and i completly aware of that fact, but this is for my bedroom, just for music, i have all refrence in my living room..... so i know its not nearly as nice, but i also really don't feel the need to put that nice of speakers in that room, so i was thinking the synergy line would do the trick

  15. I am buying a new pair of floor speakers for my bedroom, the reason being is that I can get an amazing deal on just about the whole synergy line now. I can't decide what to buy though, Its going to either be the sf-1's or the sf-2's. Right now I have the quintets and an infinity entra sub in there right now. I don't like how they sound at all for music, So I would like to pick myself up pair of either the sf-1's or the sf-2's. What do you think sounds better of the two. The sf-1's in my opinion are a little cleaner with the high's, but lack in the bass, the sf-2's have a much better response and do have a better s/n ratio..... I don't know exactly what to do yet... any advice would be great. thanks
  16. does anyone know where i would be able to find audioquest granite speaker wire for cheaper than audioadvisor, i'd assume that they may mark it up a little but i could be wrong i was just wondering if anyone knew where to get it cheaper thanks
  17. honestly what the hell are those things? who made them and what are the specs? I am impressed
  18. the quintets only go down to about 120 hz faithfully, therefore you need the sub to make up for that other range, so you want your receiver cross over at the highest and the sub to close to the highest frequency
  19. I've bought plenty of speakers from best buy and tried them out and then ended up returning them to a different store, one that i don't work at . And all i have to say is NEVER EVER EVER buy a pair of speakers fromt there, Not even the best JBL studio series they sell there sound good, they are aweful. I think bring klipsch there is an awesome idea to replace cerwin vega with, but even so.... I don't know.... i reallu want to know what my discount will be one those speakers, because even though they are just the synergy series it would be nice to have some speakers for my bed room and all of that.....
  20. Does anyone know where John Curl went to College and where he got his edumacation.... I was just wonderin if he got an electrical engineering degree and all that sort of stuff.
  21. I like the idea about the used hersey's... how much is a decen pair of used hersey's run around. I already own klipsch so its not like its afirst time or anything... to tell you the truth even though a lot of the synergy series is weak, I wouldn't mind seeing what I get with my discount just because if they are as cheap as i get the jbl's then i may be buying some synergy stuff lol. Anyways thanks for the advice. I think I may take them back to a different store lol or sell em. who knows. I don't know that many people who would be interested in something like that though. The other thing with them is that which i noticed is the total lack of highs on those speakers. I just don't like the high's at all but hey it was a steal in my book.... thanks for the input. What do you guys think of a B&K pre amp with one stereo amp as opposed to a parasound or an adcom preamp with a stereo amp, because to tell you the truth I am getting ready to buy my first pre amp/amp and I am getting excited but at the same time I'd like something good..... so parasound, adcom, B&K, what do you think of Onkyo's preamp/amp.
  22. Well, today I was at best buy and there was an open box pair of S38II's out, So i ask my boss how much he wants for them and in the end I end up getting the $500.00 for $250.00. That was a steal. So obvisouly I had to buy them since they would be worth more after I walked out the door then just letting them sit there. So I bring them home hook them up with some monster XP cable (I know its totally weak, I hate XP cable but I get it for more than half off so its worth it) and the gold connectors. Anyways I hook them upo and to say the least those speakers are not worth $500.00 at all. The Klipsch quintets I think sound better than these. Anyways I was wondering what you guys all thought of JBL's studio series and stuff.
  23. I have a set of Klipsch Quintets with out the sub. I am short on cash, and it is most unfortunate that I have to sell some of my home theater stuff. They have never been abused, only been used with movies on an onkyo txsr 500 reciever (not possible to do any damage at all), and have never been moved or anything, mounted them once and they have stayed there. I have pictures of them if you'd like. Also I will give three 30 foot pieces of monster cl3 rated in wall speaker wire with the easy pull jacket 14 guage. I am asking $250.00 or BEST OFFER. I paid full price for them and got them in Early November so they have not even been fully broken in. If you want a sub I also have an Infinity Entra sub 1 that I would be willing to sell along with them. I have all the recipts and packaging. Please E-mail me at Jumpinjack701@aol.com or respond and I will get back to you ASAP.
