Took wife's car in for oil change...

    Rear brakes, critical

    Front brakes, borderline

That puts a big dent in the budget. Got the used car last year, not sure where all the maintenance and wear was when we got it. Wife went from two smaller, lighter cars to her Nissan Rogue. She tends to drive right up to cars at a traffic light... and push on the brakes. I told her that she could let off on the gas when approaching the red light. I think she will start doing better now.

I used to go about 60,000 miles in a set of pads on my Ranger.

Once I got married and Heather was driving, it needed new pads every 10,000 miles.

I purchased some damaged R-26f's (all of which is esthetic) via Amazon. One tower had a blown tweeter. I made sure by swapping it out with the other tower. No sound, nothing. Could it be the crossover? This whole issue is resolved and I was refunded for both towers and the company sent me ONE tower for free. Crazy right? Anyways, I still have the one tower with the

the dead tweeter. What do you think is wrong with it. I mean, if I can fix it? cool. if not? no loss. Thanks guys/girls for your help

Hold up, you put the dead tweeter in the other speaker and the tweeter was still dead?

Or, you put the good tweeter in the speaker that had the dead tweeter and it(the good tweeter) didn’t work once swapped?

  3. Well, it was a pleasant enough day to put a couple hundred miles on the ol ‘burb while taking care of some issues at one of my remote offices.

Back home now with a sip of bourbon and it’s about time to get the kids to bed.

Not in the iphone world… Perhaps it is for andriods

    Maybe it’s just a lightning/usb thing 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s sort of the same thing on Android.

The point is that connecting to the DAC, you aren’t trying to pass analog audio via the cable, you are passing data.

Mornin JohnJ......didn't want you to think you were talking to yourself🙂  39 degrees and clear.  May warm up to mid 40's by LF's tennis session.

Just wondering how long this post Covid fatigue will last.  Don't have the energy to swat a fly!  No music and only a couple of drinks in the past month!  Guess I need to start shopping for old age homes😑

We’ve had covid at my house recently and I’m still feeling a little bit more tired than usual but not as bad as the first time I had it.

It’s 28° and clear here this morning and we are supposed to hit 55° this afternoon.

  7. Interesting use of internal bi-wiring with Cat-5.

Those look like a great set of H1’s.

I would not try to take the front panel off.

Just mask off the area, sand, spray some black lacquer. Or just put the grills back on.

Do you hear a difference in the LS with your braces? Sorry if this question doesn't belong in this thread...but I'm curious.

Didn’t we just have a whole thread about LS resonance?

However, the answer is yes, less of a bloom and better definition.

Picture just for size perspective. Early in life, I wanted VOTT speakers. Luckily, I saw and heard La Scalas at a party.

For many years the Altec horns were considered THE upgrade for a K400 on the LS/Khorn.

My LS will keep up with a lot of speakers out there but part of me still wants to build a set of A7 cabs.

Or maybe I’ll just refinish my LS in VOTT gray.

  10. Plane wave tube measurements tend to overemphasize the low mid response of the driver and would seem to indicate the response rolling off sooner than it would in an actual horn.

Collapsing polars with a rise in frequency is needed to keep the on axis response flat without EQ.

Constant Directivity horns will either have a rolled off upper response(on and off axis) or you implement EQ to boost the upper frequencies to maintain a flat response.

i still have a pair of K-400 horns sitting around here somewhere.

once the weather gets nice I plan on getting some on and off axis measurements with the K-55-V just to satisfy my curiousity.

  11. Reminds me of the old Maine farmer who gets a wounded moose stuck in his barn.

He starts charging folks 25 cents to go in and see it up close.

A family pulls up out front in a station wagon and gets out to go see the moose.

The farmer looks them up and down and tells them they can go in for free.

    ”It’s worth more for my

Moose to see your family than it is for your family to see my Moose.”

I have this shop computer with some seriously good speakers, but it's not allowed online. Now, I'm a music enthusiast, and I love to explore different genres from around the world. But without an internet connection, I felt a bit stuck in my musical bubble.

8th day of Covid.  Sick....sick....sick.  Tested positive last Wednesday and then again yesterday.  Too tired to move😞

It’s been at my house too.

My two youngest boys and I were the last to get it and it’s been dragging us down since last weekend.

I can tell they are feeling better.
Instead of being flopped on the couch this morning they were sitting up playing Pokémon.

@Invidiosulus How do you like that horn, STH100? 30 db down at 20 KHz? The graph is a little hard to read.

Sorry, it cropped funny when I grabbed a screenshot from REW and I’m running out of space on here to upload larger pics.

The right edge of the graph is actually 24kHz.

    It’s only about 2dB down at 20kHz.

I like the horn a lot.

I had used these horns previously with some Celestion CDX1-1412 neo drivers which are absolutely fantastic and were really flat out to 21kHz.

The celestion drivers were a smaller 2 bolt pattern and would bolt on without drilling a new set of mounting holes on this horn.

I ended up moving the Celestion drivers into my KP-250 when they needed new tweeters and I’ve been on the lookout for something else that could get to 20kHz that could bolt onto the STH100.

So far I’m pretty happy with the D220ti.

The quality of the listening environment can also play a role.

The risk of tinnitus was the reason I stopped going to live concerts. Even though I like all kinds of music, I mostly attended jazz concerts because the quality payout is the highest, but they can be extremely loud too because many are heavily electrified.

One of the doctors at the facility where my wife and I work has a desk made from a wing section from a Beechcraft Bonanza. He's a bit eccentric, and his office is full of all kinds of crazy stuff. The only reason his desk is empty here is that everything was removed while he was on a cruise so they could put new flooring in.

Beechcraft Bonanza is the name of my friends EP for their rockabilly band.

My parents retired to northwest Wisconsin, where it often hit -40 in the winter. We lived in the Madison area where it got down to -10 or -20 pretty often.

I think we were all pretty happy to move back south.
