  1. Alrite, I just read the article from Soundwise and I'm going to make one by myself . Actually the price are quite similar for comparing make one and buy one since I've no tools to make them at all and i've to get them. Well I got a holiday it doesn't matter
  2. Well I just foudn that the sonica sells $69.95 as the retail price
  3. Well just choose sth that you like, you can't really get some advice without Exitgy here I guess . Btw for sound cards this forum will bring you a lot of surprise. http://www.3dsoundsurge.com/
  4. how come no one knows about monster cable or has the cables that can give any comment on it????
  5. I guess you are going to use your laptop as the movie theater with the 4.1 speakers (Well I'm using desktop but EIZO L365 lcd and look like a laptop environment for me and the same speakers set). Since the dvds are going to 24bit/96khz instead of 16bit/48khz. Both of them are supporting DTS/AC3 out for optical so don't worry about changing to 5.1 SPDIF in speakers. But I found there's some minor things that you should be aware of, Maya5.1USB supports Win ME, 98SE, 2k and XP. But the Sonica supports 2k and XP only. If you are using ME/98SE then you should be aware but 2k and XP are fine . There was no review on those external sound cards but both companies' products have very good comment on their sound cards. M-audio usually sells audio prodcuts for higher priced market($300-$800). So I'd assume Sonica will be more expensive than Maya 5.1USB($99), for external 5.1 sound cards Maya5.1 USB really make the price to a low one with price/performance ratio. It's hard to choose between them but if you need one hurry, get Maya 5.1USB. Since Sonica is not yet released . If you are going to get one for using longer period of time or better chance for expanding sound system, wait for Sonica. Well consider about the price too, real and ideal are 2 different things
  6. I just got my Promedia 4.1 yesterday and it works great. But it's a refurbished ver that I guess the cables are somewhat damaged inside(I need to turn to certain angle to activate some channel). I should get a set of monster cable from Klipsch or I'd go for other brands from elsewhere??? thx
  7. There are several choices and you may not need to choose Creative only(well they thought they are the only sellers and increase the price that reaching heaven without reasons ) You can take a look at Maya 5.1/7.1 USB( http://www.audiotrak.net/eng/index.html), another 2 come from Maudio. I can't find the site of that company but you can search for M-audio for that page. You'd get it unless you got enough money . Or just stick with Creative. For personal ideas I'd recommend Maya 5.1
  8. Tom bandil was shown on first book, before the Bree's part. But I guess they can't make that. I can't think of any computer effect that can make the tree stuck them and to be realistic not as the fake one
  9. Oh god I forgot ebay the great 2nd hand auction market again Thanks man
  10. cool thanks Justin you also solved my problem in my thread also I'm gotta looking for reciever right now
  11. Alright, after all of the informations, I've 3choices: 1. Digi theater speaker system LC (2nd hand) and Daewoo DVG-9000N around $250 Ref link(Speaker www.videologic.com) dvd player: https://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005UFCL/ref=cm_wl_ovu-pg.1-pos.1/002-6978274-6241617?v=glance&coliid=I1S4XB9QOOD9IE 2. Samsung HT-DM150 home theater system $299.98 reference link http://www.vanns.com/avcom/De.dna?RG=922-843&dt=731548&tm=84162&sku=516299534&cart=3247600692347030&cID=0&MC=Video&DC=DVD%20Theater%20Systems&pTitle=Samsung%20HT-DM150&objdata=naccSKU&com=shwpg 3. JVC TH-A30 home theater system $349.99 http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-YUJRty5Vbce/ProdView.asp?a=0&s=0&g=37700&id=detailed_info&i=257THA30 (thx for the information of this system ) Since I didn't try any home theater system so I can't judge they are really good quailty enough to compare with the seperated systems. Well perhaps I'm out of date for combined home theater systems that makes me always prefer seperated items. Does anyone know they are really good enough or not? One of them above or a new template <--------life with questions PS. Is there any dvd player has 5.1 out with dts so that I can buy the dvd player and speakers directly to avoid digital decoder or reciever(they don't work here becuase they are too expensive)
  12. Thanks information for everyone, I guess I got an idea what to deal with for $350 budgets . But where should I look for the 2nd hand reciever?? I'd probably go on second hand speakers and reciever. Is there any site that can recommend for reciever? Since they are usually having price like $1000 even they are second hand. I'm looking for one that's $200-250 if possible
  13. So I should get a combined set instead of buying them in seperated pieces?? Although I'd go for cheap computer speakers like digithreater from Videologic but I guess they still have better quality than those "brand" theater systems?? Anyway I didn't try them and does anyone tried similart hings that can give some advice ?
  14. So what speakers should I get? Or reciever? Since I recievers with speakers are usually more expensive than 300 bucks. I guess it's able to buy a pair of speakers by 300 bucks only . Is there any choices that I can choose from? Especially for the reciever because I've no idea for the reciever but it's possible to get a set of computer speakers that's 5.1 and cheap. Of coz dolby digital decode and dts if possible . I think the budget of the reciever can go to $200 because I got some choices for speakers and they can spare the budget to $200 of buying a reciever.
  15. I'm not sure about their family's tv supports progressive scan or not but I geuss not(Just a family that has simple furnitures). They usually listen classical music so I think they'd go for sound quality instead of picutre quality. BUt the progressive scan seems become future's standard, they may probably change the tv within a year or 2. So I'm stuggling with paying a hundred more bucks for progressive scan or not. But they'd go for sound quality more than picture if they can choose one only
  16. Hey guys. I got a question with those solving a home threater with a very small budget. Well my situation is like this: My friend's family is looking for a home theater system for $350 within DVD player(since they aren't crazy about at it and they are just the consumers and want them instead of quality). My plan is like this: 1. Progressive scan dvd player $150, I guess the price should be around $150, is there any recommendation for the player? 2. The biggest problem comes out, I should drop my price on dvd player and get rid of progressive scan and pay more on speakers? No matter yes or no I should get a set of computer speakers to put with them? Since they have the quality with similar price. Or I should buy a cheap reciever with 5.1 speakers? If yes is there any model that can recommend? I'm always looking for 2-300 for a pair of speakers that they are unable to afford and i've no idea about those price's range speakers btw happy thx giving
  17. I play CS as well but I think there's only few people that joined the game in this forum. But anyway I usually use "Turtle Beach :D" as my player name
  18. Yeah I just checked that post. It was a month or 2 ago. But I didn't know that the versajack isn't working. I think I've to get another sound card. But I don't want the Creative one because their card doesn't worth that much for this period of time. I used from Creative SB 32 and lots of cards and then live 5.1. But after I use the TBSC my mind changed completely . So I should consider of Maya 7.1 or Fos-III? Or GTXP??? I don't need cool look but I want quality and which is worth for that price . I don't think my sound card's digital out is working after I see the post already
  19. I tried the adapter, which is not working with it (That's why I'm asking about that) it seems not supporting the digital signals the second and the third proposal is what I'm using. But it supports stereo but not 5.1 or something similar anymore. I bought the reciever because I want to play dvd with the DTS and hardware decode effect, but it seems going back to 2.1 or somewhat like that. It means should I get another sound card to obtain the get the best effect or?
  20. I just recieved the DD-5.1 from Klipsch. I connected it to my computer and my speakers. I bought the digital coaxial cable for connecting the sound card and the DD-5.1. I bought the RCA to RCA one. My sound card doesn't support RCA connecting which is TBSantaCruz. So I bought a adapter for switching RCA into minijack. But it seems doesn't work, may be it's for analog only?? Does anyone know where can I get a RCA to Minijack's adapter for digital coaxial or a digital coaxial cable from RCA to minijack? Thanks alot
  21. Hmm I'm going to connect DD 5.1 with my sound card, which one should I choose? Optical? Coaxial? Or going back RCA for connecting DD5.1 side?? I just want to get the best quality and I don't need to connect other components
  22. Does anyone know where can I get a cable with a side is Minijack for fitting Santa Cruz's plug in for digital out? Other side is RCA but not minijack. or it could be a RCA coaxial to Minijack's adapter, because I couldn't find it in Radioshack or similar shops
