  1. Hi, think of the Forte 1 as being a heresy 2 but with more bass. They don't go that low actually, but typical "heritage" sound, not quite as bright as the heresy 2, tonally more like a heresy 1. The later ones have a bigger ABR unit and a tractrix mid. A bit more "horn blare" from a tractrix, I think.I have owned forte 1, herest 1 and 2, chorus 1 and 2 RF5, cornwall and k horn, fortes are good in a medium/smaller room, i prefer the bigger weight to the sound compared to heresy
  2. My amp is Unison Research Simply Four Parallel single ended class A ( two EL 34 a side, currently using chinese Golden Dragons and very nic valves they are too and I have a few different makes in the cupboard)
  3. Hi, Nice to hear from you all. Cin Pops I am familiar with and like very much. Telarc recordings, some good some very good but all very dynamic. You just love making people jump out of their seat when demming the Klipsches! Those organ works I will look out for and 8 watts should give you plenty of power for Klipsch. Can you get Harmonia Mundi recordings in USA? They are very sweet sounding. John
  4. Hi, haven't posted for ages but I am the guy in England that uses Klipsch! I have owned many but currently using Forte in a room about 16 X 16 feet. Much better than my Chorus in a room this size. I read with interest some of the conflicting views on SET and views on how speakers like Khorns dont have much depth(!?) then read on to see Khorns being used in rooms smaller than mine. Surely a speaker like Heresy would be better in a room that size? A Many people seem to use speakers too big for the room. Also, this idea that SET is only going to go about as loud as a mobile phone ringtone, or lack bass control, or lack speed and dynamics. I use a parallel single ended (11 watts a side) and speakers with around 100 db efficiency, that is plenty. And I like my music at a realistic listening volume as I like the whole sound to be as natural and realistic as possible. Now, I am not trying to preach to anybody that we should all use SET ( or PP or tranny or anything else) but the idea that it wont work is curious to say the least. Some of the very low power valve amps I have heard also sound good too and with ultra efficient 'speakers should presnt now problem. Surely the problem would be using speakers with less than 90 db efficiency and then trying to get a realistic volume? One more ponit...I like many of you am always looking for a super recording when I buy a cd, only to end up very disapointed. Anything anyone can reccomend I may have missed? I have one for you guys you may have overlooked. Enchantment by Charlotte Church! John
  5. Hi, You are, of course right on most points...with the exception of one. Analog over digital? You have a mid price Rega Planet CD player..on that system? It deserves so much more.... Try a Tube Technology Fusion CD 64.... John
  6. Joshua, As a UK resident we have long since been deprived of Klipsch as a brand. Where more and more people at the high end are using valve amps (esp SET) this is a nonsense. DEANG makes a valid point and a Promise. Pay him his salary (commission?) and he will get many more stores selling Klipsch. I cannot offer that for you in the UK at present as I am already very successfully engaged in sales over here (and would need alot more money) but surely there is a big enough market here? Look how uch high end stuff comes from UK. Perhaps we in the UK have finally overtaken America as the masters of selling, marketing and being hungry to make sales. John Capon
  7. Hello, I currently use Chorus 1 and on UK ebay there is a pair of KLF 30's. My question is this. How will they sound in a sxteen foot square living room compared to my Chorus 1? What type of sound difference can I expect? I like all kinds of music. I use a single ended valve amp, Cheers John
  8. Hello, I have been offered a pair of Khorns for £1500 GBP. They are oiled walnut and in good condition. They are 1985 vintage. Only problem is I have a listening room only 12 X 17 feet and my chorus are a bit in yoiur face as it is. I have also been offered a pair of KG 3.5 which are 400 GBP. I am told they will work well in a small room. Which way should I jump: Bigger, smaller or stay the same? I have not heard Khorns or KG 3.5 and I weont live in this house for ever, what is the smallest size room to make the Khorns sound sensible? Any advice on this greatly appreciated, John
  9. Hi, I would suspect reflections of the room or things in it. Please do not think of what I am saying next as a joke. I once had the same problem and discovered my ears needed syringing! Most likely reflections, of course. I assume you have tried all the usual stuff, like switching channelss etc John C
  10. Yes I know it came up3 times.I have no explanation
  11. Hello, I have had a new set of tubes put in my amp earlier this year and I was never as pleased with the sound as the old ones. They were all Edicron EL 34 but the new ones had a different identification number to the old and look different inside. As I have got a suspect valve in the new set I refitted the old ones and it sounds better. I have since ordered another new set this time Unison Research branded ones which are in fact made by JJ in Slovakia, so it will be interesting to see what the difference is when they turn up. Can I just plug them in and play or should the amp be "biased" and what does that mean? Hope somebody can tell me as I am fairly new to valves
  12. Max, This high end thing , what is it exactly? I have seen people who have very expensive components and have no understanding whatsoever about 1) what makes a system sing or 2) that their system sounds total pants. I met a guy once with real high end stuff who only owned 3 CD's and no vinyl . He was a Hi Fi nut. I am sorry, he was not interested in music though! The two go together. Surely it is a sense of balance.I know of no Hi Fi club in the UK whatsoever but the idea rather appeals to me. Would not want toomuch snobbery though! My whole system cost around £6000. Some new, some used.To me it is a fair amount of money. To some people it is a fortune. To others, it would not even buy the interconnects. In any case, people with humbler systems than mine are probably on the upgrade path anyway, especially if they join a club!

  15. Hey yo guys, I have had both Heresy 1 and Heresy 2 speakers. I find the 1's far better. Tighter more revealing on the midband, better balanced and they do not ring! Absolutely not! I am amazed at how different they sound and how nobody else has mentioned this. I had a good play with the mk2 Heresy and Chorus but ended up with the Chorus. Now I really fancy a pair of Khorns, but I have never heard a pair. I have heard the La Scala. Truly wonderful. One day I will have the K Horns. Only question is, should I do it sooner or later? Can anybody tell me the difference in the sound between Chorus 1 and K Horn? Please, please?
  16. Hi, In The UK I would say almost all Klipsch owners us valves or tubes ( English pronounciation "tyooooob" LOL. To most peolpe into these things, they would be surprised that solid state is used at all. With tranny amps they go bloody loud! Cheerio for now
  17. Bob, I have never tried to set a system up in a mobile home so I can't comment. However, there is a lot of difference in the way British homes are built Some are solid walled but most new house have thin "stud" walls inside and the outside wall is often "dry lined" (battened off and plasterboarded. Also, regardless of age, concrete solid floors and suspended floors are 50/50 split. Klipsch speakers do not have alot of bass in my English homes . Now JBL speakers have a lot of bass! Bose acoustimass has lots of wobbly bass and splashy treble (with zero midband). I think Wharfdales make a big loud bass. But Klipsch? Sound for sound, not too much bass. Tight , fast , dynamic bass yes. But not huge amounts of it. Most important part of the system? Al of it, but with speakers designed to match the room. Trouble is, I love Klipsch and wherever I live will put up with the shortcomings because the advantages of scale, revealing midband and bass as tight as a gnats chuff mean that everything else sounds a bit undynamic and lifeless.
  18. Jim, A cheap and easy fix is to stand them on paving slabs on carpet. If the floor resonates that much then spikes may be out. You could still spike the speakers onto the slabs of course, but paving slabs will help
  19. Jim, If the room is not big enough you will not get the full bass...also they can be very in your face in a room less than 20 by 12. Best improvement is to SPIKE them. Coupling the speaker to the floor and isolating it at the same time. Try re positioning also. Check for "reflection" sources, e g radiators too near. As ever, experimenting is the order of the day.
  20. Thanks Mike, Gil and Craig too, I think I shall shy away from electronic changes(eg crossovers) as Electronics is pure alchemy to me.. I asm surprised nobody has suggested re wiring with better cables. As for damping, it would seem the Klipsches simply do not need it, unless anybody can ell me otherwise? Mine are on there standard riser plynths and on spikes. Spikes make a huge difference and really tighten things up. The bass is one area which does not need any attention! Main thing I will be upgrading is my house as the listening room is only 17' x 11'. A bit too small for the Chorus to "breathe"
  21. DES, Chorus 1 has more of everything than Heresy 1 or 2 because it is bigger. Heresy 2 has "more" bass, but to my mind sounds coloured , especially when compared to Heresy 1.I loved my Heresy 1 but found the 2 very difficult to live with. Before I bought the Chorus, it was the Forte 1 which I really wanted. But the Chorus came along! Remember there are hardly any Klipsch speakers over here.I have experience only of La Scala, Heresy 1 and 2 and Chorus 1. Oh yes, I have heard the Cornwall too, but not with enough in depth listening to pass judgement For "heritage" sound, chorus has more in common with Heresy 1 and La Scala than Heresy 2. AQs you may have gathered, I am not a huge fan of Heresy 2! It all comes down to "listen and make up your own mind" as ever, of course. I understand the Quartets to be very good also, but I have never heard them. Mind you, it is not all "across the pond they get all the good gear". My Tube Technology CD 64 Fusion is a fantastic CD player, even at 2000GBP.So revealing on the midband and nothing to compare anywhere near the price. A real "record player in a box". An analogue sound with the dynamic range that only digital can offer.I have tried and owned many CD players including top end Meridian and Audio Alchemy and the small English manufacturer blows them all out of the water. I evben prefer it to the Mark Levinson, which I find very dry sounding. Enough ranting for now!
  22. Here's a good question. I have a pair of 1989 Chorus 1 and as you probably know they are big boxes with no damping material in them . My question is this. Is there any advantage to applying some damping inside and also fixing some bracing inside the cabinets? Also, I have nice expensive speaker cable from amp to speaker and it looks very ordinary and cheap stuff used inside. Are there any other mods I can do? System is: Tube Technology CD player (64 bit) Single ended Unison Research Simply Four Amp Chorus 1 Speakers. Mains cables are Kimber with Kimber Silencer block, Speaker cable Exposure Phono lead Arcam ruby Your thoughts most welcome. JOhn C
  23. Des, I nDo not know where the builder will land, but the big Chorus against the Heresy? Surely no contest. In terms of scale and balance, the Chorus 1 wins hands down. Much bigger box and a much more neutral and authoritive sound. Only real test is to listen yourself, of course. Mind, I have great respect for builders comments especially between mk1/2 Heresy and mk1/2 Chorus. For what it is worth, Guy (the last official Klipsch importer to the UK) says that KG 3.5 works best in a SMALL room, and he owns still many models in the line up as new old stock, including Heresy 2 and K Horns at £3500 a pair. Should I buy them, builder, to replace my Chorus 1? I must confess I have never listened to K Horns because I have never had the opportunity. BTW K Horns are in unfinished birch and new old stock circa 1997 John C
  24. HDBRbuilder, Why do the twos sound so different to the ones? I have heard critisism of ones blowing woofers and "ringing" mid horns, but found them much better. What is your honest opinion of the Chorus 1 which I use and how does it compare to K Horn and La Scala? John C
  25. Hi Des, I am John from England. The Heresy one is far superior to the two, if you like the La Scala sound you will prefer it. The Two is brighter and to my mind not anywhere near as tight on the bass.I have owned and used both. Currently I use Chorus 1 which is a bass reflex with 2 ports on the front.Big, dnamic very tight sound, best spiked. Better with high quality cables NOT silver. Chorus two is bass reflex via a big 15 inch ABR on the back . Can't comment on how they sound cos I never heard them! Anybody else knows both I wouyld be interested to hear there views. Chorus are still pretty big but easy to place as they obviously need no stands and work best in the corners, of course. I think best toed in so the sound from each speaker crosses over exactly at listening point. Narrows down best listening position but more accurate soundstage. Still verty efficient 101 db so low output valve amps sound superb. There is my two pennys worth anyway! Cheerio for now, John C
