  1. Do they still make the 3" CD?
  2. I am using the same receiver, STR-DE885, with a subwoofer. Make sure you select SUB WOOFER: YES (page 20 US manual.) Also select A. DEC. (Auto Decoding), (Page 29) and (Page 32)
  3. I am currently using SB-2s in a small room. Just team them up with the rest of the Synergy series for your center and surround speakers. Also, get a very good subwoofer such as a SVC, HSU, or others. A good subwoofer makes a big impact on the home theater experience. You can ask "TheEar" for his recommendations on quality subwoofers. I am very happy with my SB-2s and the Synergy surrounds and center channel speaker.
  4. If I were to connect the Speaker Output from my receiver to the High Level Input of the subwoofer and then connect the High Level Output from the subwoofer to the bookshelf speakers, how would I set the sound level of the subwoofer to match the output of the bookshelf? I own a digital SPL meter, and I have a CD (provided by HSU) that has pink noise. How can I isolate the sound so it only plays out of the subwoofer or the bookshelf so I can compare the levels?
  5. From my understanding, high frequency sound waves are very directional, and low frequency sound waves are nondirectional. At what frequency do sound waves become nondirectional? In my home theater system, I have the fronts, center, and surrounds set to "small," and I have the subwoofer crossed over at 80Hz. The subwoofer is located in the corner. When watching movies, I can tell there is low frequency sound coming from the corner instead of being nondirectional. It is very irritating. It is no fun watching a movie when the sound placement does not coincide with the action on the screen.
  6. Is it possible to run 4 subwoofers using 3 "Y" connectors hooked up to a single Sub Out on a receiver?
  7. I am currently using a HSU VTF-2 powered subwoofer. It is good to about 30Hz (Max Output Mode). I am wondering if it is worth spending another $850 to get the HSU VTF-3 sub which can extend down to 18Hz (Max Extension Mode). Are there many music or movie material that have frequencies below 30Hz? How much am I missing out by not being able to hear frequencies below 30Hz?
  8. Most guys in this forum will tell you to skip the Synergy and go with the Reference series. Also, they will tell you to go with the RSW subwoofer. For your surrounds, go with a dedicated surround speakers such as Synergy SS-1 or Reference RS-x. When picking a receiver, get one that can power 6 or even 7 channels. My Sony can decode the back surround but it can only power 5 channels which means I have to get another amp to power the back surrounds. If I had to build my HT system all over again, this would be the advice I would give myself.
  9. There is much talk on this forum about how Klipsch speakers sound good with Parasound amplifiers. Based on this talk, I am looking into getting a Parasound amplifier. I notice Parasound makes MOSFET and transitor amplifiers. What is the difference in sound quality between the two, and which one is more compatable with Klipsch?
  10. Stereo Review magazine was a good magazine. The magazine reviewed products that people could actually afford, unlike Stereophile magazine. Also, Stereo Review was a great source for novices to learn about hifi.
  11. What are some good sources of ambient lighting recommended for home theater viewing? Is diffused candle light (frosted jar candle)a good source?
  12. Hi! I am new to home theater. I would like to get your opinion on the top 10 action DVDs based on visual and sound effects. Please feel free to re-list any movie that another person has listed. I plan on getting the top 10 that gets the most votes. I just bought, "The Fast and the Furious," on the recommendation of Home Theater magazine's Buyer's Guide 2003. They have it as their #1 pick. After watching the movie, all I can say is, WOW! I love the sound effects. Thank you for taking your valuable time to read my post.
  13. Would Klipsch Reference series speakers match well with a tube amp?
  14. Which is better for home theater--floorstanding "large" fronts vs "small" front speakers and a very good subwoofer? I would think there is really no reason for me to get full range floor standing front speakers when I plan to just set them to "small" and cut them off at 80Hz or so. Wouldn't I be wasting money?
  15. What are the benefits and tradeoffs of the following sub design: a) front firing vs down firing paper drivers vs drivers made of other materials also, are all subwoofers ported?
  16. I am currently using the following Klipsch Synergy series speakers: SB-2 Fronts, SC-1 Center, and SS-1 Surrounds. I would like to purchase a sub(s) to complement my existing speakers. My room dimensions are 15' x 20'. All my speakers are placed equidistant from the listening/viewing position (6'9"). I am thinking of either getting: a) single HSU VTF-2 10" driver single HSU VTF-3 12" driver c) combo Klipsch KSW-10 and KSW-15 d) single Klipsch KSW-12 e) dual Klipsch KSW-12 Given my room dimensions and existing speakers, what sub should I purchase? Any other suggestions besides the choices I listed? P.S. Thank you for taking your valuable time to read my post.
  17. TO: Zandern, J-Malotky Thank you for your input. With so many subs on the market and so many options (driver size, single sub, dual indentical subs, dual sub combinations), it will be very difficult to pick the right sub.
  18. Like you, I am building my home theatre system one piece at a time also. I currently have a pair of SB-2 for mains and the SC-1 center channel. I will be buying the SS-1 surrounds soon. I bought my SC-1 at Brandnamez.com for $159.00 I plan to buy the SS-1 pair at Acousticsounddesign.com for $289.00/pair. Also if you look on this Klipsch site, you will find out what speakers go with your SB-2s.
  19. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using two identical powered subwoofers for music listening and for home theatre?
