  1. Warning, the Surgeon General believes that rancour will gives you ulcer.
  2. Actually, Kelly finally got a life and stoped wasting time on audio forums. I'm halfway there...
  3. Well I guess there are no other choice than to settle for a "I'm glad these are working out for you"!
  4. Jeff, That might be what I am looking for. I think I also know the solution but they are too expensive for me, unless you are planning to get rid of some heavy speakers before the move.[6] Kudret The Lamhorns 1.8 are moving with me for sure! Be sure to hear a pair if interested to go with these. Like every other speakers, including (yes yes) the khorns, they come with their drawbacks too!
  5. You don't have to convince me about the room, the need for a good recording and so forth. I know. Look at the question from every angle, the khorn placement even in the best of room will always be an handicap for "outstanding" imaging. Other good speakers, especially single point sources will have the advantage, especially for having that nearfield 3D "holographic" type of imaging.
  6. I'll second Kudret here. If you don't have the right room, just forget about the khorns. And even if you have the right room, if image is important for you the khorns might not be your cup of tea. These definitively do not belong to the "impressive imaging" list of speakers.
  7. It can be built for relatively cheap if using Hammond OPT. I may take your advice and buy an old Ampeg B18 to bring with me. I've spot one that was not to far from my place. I guess it would be a nice mathc with my Rickenbacker 4001.
  8. I'm moving from glacial Quebec to Perth, Western Australia with my little familly for a golden future in mining. The climate, the pay, the marvelous landscape and Aussies friendlieness conquered us so we'll move down there as soon as February. I'd like to take the occasion to reduce the number of big heavy electronic stuff that is gathering dust here. So right now I have a Dynaco ST70 for sale and a Hickock 539C tube tester for sale. The Dynaco was rebuilt with the VTA upgrade board, modified to use a 12AU7 instead of a 12AT7. The amp works perfectly and is a plug and play. Of course you'll have to adjust the bias form time to time. 600 USD plus shipping takes it to your home. The Hickock 539C is 1000 USD plus shipping. The 539C is one of the best tube tester you can get. If interested, don't use the personal message to get in touch with me. I just don't look at these. Fire me a mail at jeff.lessard@sympatico.ca instead.
  9. Staying away from audio forum, turning off the computer and taking everything good that living in Greece could offer me?
  10. What is the definition of a low efficiency speaker? 99 db? 88? 93? The problem always get down to what are you listening to. I've got good results listening to jazz with a 25 W ultra linear tube amp and 83 dB Rogers LS3/5A. The same setup was awful for symphonies. And no matter the setup, everything was awful when I listened to Dean's compressed FM pseudo-rock tunes...
  11. No offense but unless your day job involves your intimate part and a pair of sexy twins, chances are that nobody envy you.
  12. Some will claim this indeed. What they do not tell is the enormous amount of time they have spend findling with tuning the system. As a general rule, audio is for people with a rather boring life. DIY audio is for people with a really boring life. Then bi-amping is for people with no-life.
  13. A good ole Voight Pipe is a little experiment that will give you a lot of fun. But you'll get tired after a while. Like the Abbies, it's a "cute toy" but nothing more. It's really quick and cheap to build so it's a no brainer nonetheless. A Hedlund Horn is quite good. It's awfully complicated to build but it should turn out to be a conversation piece when finished because of the size. My favorite single back loaded horn is the Lamhorn 1.8 with the AER mk 1 full range driver. I've tried relly hard to prefer my previous Klipschorns, then my CW than these but I just couldn't. There is something with their presentation that really gets me hooked to them despite their "lack of bass".
  14. Actually, I think Bruce Edgard designed the Empire cabinet. My guess would be that Ray Moth only made the tacky-retro-rococo-art-deco-kitsch dressing. It was one of the worst sounding full range back loaded horn I ever heard. And let me tell you I've heard a lot! An expensive piece of sh!t if there ever was one.
  15. Amy, <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--><?xml:namespace prefix = o /> Im glad you stepped in! And maybe as you can see the subject has caused some friction among people and a lot of debut some very harsh and some very good and obviously there are people with commercial interest as well. <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> Im relatively new to your forum but I am not certainly new to Klipsch as I have been an Audiophile for nearly 35yrs and in the last ten or so have taken an interest in SET amplification and because of it I needed an efficient loudspeaker a pair of Fortes belonged to one of my parents and I knew they were highly efficient so I borrowed them and discovered a product that was a real sleeper and with a few modifications was a real giant in its own right! <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> I use Klipsch only because they bring out the qualities of sound that I want to hear from tube amplifiers! I have no interest in seriously listening to Klipsch products with solid state and most of my friends some of which have spent thousands of dollars on your product do not recommend to use solid state with Klipschs either! Im not alone in this opinion! And Im sure there are many Klipsch forum members that feel the same way! Also there are plenty of members that feel that SS is the only way to go as well! And some as strongly as others and I do about tubes and that Debut will never just simply go away! <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> I realize that Klipsch is more mainstream consumer orientated today which I think it has to in order to survive! <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> My interest in Klipsch and many others lies in the Heritage Series mostly because of the valve era where Klipsch had a strong presence. <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> The Klipsch Forum, <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> Its nice that there is a 2-channel forum but there are camps within the forum as well! Such as Solid State, Tubes Push-Pull, SET and many DIYers such as myself. <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> It would seem that for less rhetoric Klipsch might consider some new categories of interest such as these sites have! <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/index.php? <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> http://www.audioasylum.com/index.html <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> With your other categories such as home theater and many others I rarely visit, 2-channel is what I prefer even for home theater use and that is a Debut all by itself! <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> So I ask can something be done here? <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> Of course I also ask what do other Forum Members think as well? <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> Just one opinion! <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> SET12 <!--[if !supportEmptyParas]--> <!--[endif]--> Should I understand you're not too good at detecting irony? Oh well...
  16. Too buzy to do that... I have a life you know! While discussing the subject I'd like to know: -are tubes accurate? -how many watts do I need? -why does my original Eico bought on eBay hum? I've read somewhere tube amps were supposed to be good?
  17. I'm not sure but I think I saw the horse move a little bit...
  18. I think the grey one are the original Williamsons. No idea about the blue ones.
  19. The fixies are typically bought by hipsters. They'll use them for three runs then will leave them hanged on the wall (on the mandatory hipster wall bike hanger) after realising these have a really limited range of applications. The only ones using these more than one month are "flat terrain" cyclists This being said, the hipster in me finds the Bianchi really beautiful. The hills around me tells me to forget about this kind of bike.
  20. Luckily we're using hydro-electricity up here... For my own amps, I did leave them on in the winter time. I did turn them on-off in the summertime. I wouldn't do that with an oldie like the Eico or a Dyna. Now everything is stored away as the little tyke definitively have curious fingers. So I'm listening to a digital plastic fantastic piece of siht. For the record, besides 5687 that burns out pretty fast when left on, the only tubes that ever died on me where while turning on (because of filament going open) and broken tubes when tube rolling on drunken evening. I wouldn't suggest an always on without knowing how hard are the tubes driven though.
