  1. okay, so why does my sound system sound so much worse when in Tone Defeat mode, than when its not in Tone Defeat? To me, Tone defeat turned on sounds exactly like 0 bass and 0 treble. Is this just because my reciever is so old?
  2. I tried to show off my system over 4th of July weekend at a party in my house. But when my friends saw the Klipsch, they ran in fear...
  3. Right, so I have 2 RF7s and thats all I could afford for right now. I have them hooked up to an Onkyo Reciever on the "B" Speaker mode. I set it to Bypass Stereo Mode and it sounds awesome. On Music and especially in movies. The imaging is spectacular. Anyway, I listen to them without turning on "Tone Defeat" mode because all I noticed was that it simply sets the Bass and treble to +0. While I can turn this on and off in Stereo Bypass mode, I cant turn it off in Pro-logic or THX Cinema mode. Why is this always enabled in multi-channel mode, or is this only particular to my reciever. I'm only asking because eventually, I want to get the rest of the Klipsch Reference series and a Reciever, perhaps the Pioneer 49txi or something. How does this affect yall who have similiar setups? Is the bass and especially the treble as clear and distinct and "controllable" in multichannel digital or prologic or THX cinema mode?
  4. they arent knowledgable, they are basically idiots. I work at Best Buy, I know. My supervisor, the head of the department is a complete jackoff. He is a pathetic excuse for a "product specialist". YOu dont have to know anything about audio video to be able to sell. All you have to know is to lie, if a customer asks a question, just say "yeah, sure it'll do that" and make the sale. At Best Buy, they go by what TV gives the most margin in profit and thats the one they try to shove down your throat, whether it is the best for your needs or not. Foe example, today a customer came in wanting a 32 inch flat screen HDTV. I took him to where they were, and he says "if I want this picture at home, what do I need?". I said, Oh well you need either a HDTV tuner, or HD cable or sat box. THen this idiot runs up to me and corrects me, saying, oh no, you dont need any of that, its ready to go! I didnt correct him as I would get "written up". Even on the Best Buy site, it says you need a set top box for HD. I showed him that, and he still maintains he's correct. I'm the most knowledgable guy there, and they have me consistantly working the 19-27 inch tv area. And I was hoping that getting this job, I could finally help people get the product they need, and get the knowledge they want from a sales rep... boy was I wrong. My advice, go to Tweeter
  5. you want a 50 inch tv with the best picture and under 2000? good luck with that one.
  6. The channels I tried were MSNBC and Foxnews, but the crackling went away after 5 or so minutes.. How do you like that AVR507?
  7. Now, I have noticed a definite break in period for my RF7s. I called Klipsch before I hooked them up, and the tech support said it was about 30 minutes of break in, thats required. So when I finally hooked them up, at first it was terrible sounding, I dont know why. The treble was extremely crackly on every tv channel, but within 5 minutes that went away. Then it started sounding better and better in about 30 minutes or so at normal volume. So if thats what break in means, Its made a believer out of me...
  8. i like the Idea of the Heritage series, but honestly, I hate the way they look. They are just way too big and expensive when new. I'm sure it has gerat performance, but if I ever think about spending more than 5 digits on a speaker, it will be for wilson or martin logan or something...
  9. cant speak for the RF3-IIs, but I just got a couple of RF7s and the detail in treble and smooth bass is very pleasing. Unlike you though, I picked up on the minor sound details in the movie I have so far watched. Personally, I dont think the RF3 IIs will be a whole lot more better than the RF7s, I think RF7s have just more bass and treble. I guess it would come down moreso on your room size than anything else.
  10. My RF-7 Short Story... Well, I hooked it up today, I went with Monster XP 16 gauge cable, 20 feet, split to 10 feet each. First I tried with bare wire, but I couldnt quite reach the back of the reciever. Its placed in this entertainment cabinet, and I couldnt really get to it. Also, because of that whole Bi-wiring thing, I wasnt sure how secure the connection would be, had I poked it through the hole, and then had to place the spade lugs above it. So then I opened up the instructions for the reciever, and they said that a good connection would be to possible with banana plugs. Then I looked on the back of the RF7 and the binding posts had the middle covered up. So I thought I would have to get spade lugs on one end, for the speakers, and banana for the reciever side. then I called Klipsch, and they said that you can pop off the middle part off the binding posts on the speakers and stick in the banana plugs. Then I got the banana plugs, from monster cable but I couldnt figure out exacty how it worked (i was a virgin at advanced speaker hookups). So then I returned to best Buy for the third time, and got them to show me how to do it. They said you stick the wire with the jacket through the middle hole and then use the screw to poke a hole through it. Then, finally I came back and hooked up the speakers. My god, they were so crappy when I initially turned on the TV with MSNBC! It was so crackly, and I was just bewildered. I flipped channels, same crackly sound. I thought this could be because of the cable feed, and I am noticing this on the RF-7s that I didnt on the Bose AM-10s. Then I popped in the Back to the Future Part III DVD; Thats when things started to come full circle. I tried the last few chapters with the Delorean on the tracks. That sounded unbelievable. Not only was there a difference in imaging, but just the depth. I was able to do exactly what I wanted, an A-B comparison at my home, in my settings. It was so clear, and the bass from the RF7s was so much greater than the bass from the bass module from the bose system. From what I gathered, the RF7s are about 10db louder than the AM-10 at the same level. Now by dB, I dont mean actual db, I ran the reciever at -37 for the RF7s, and -27 for the AM-10 for the same volume levels. That that however you will. Then I tried some music CDs, thats when it was really evident how pronounced the difference was. On the Eagles Hell freezes over, track 6, the bongos sounded like them, not fake synthesized bass like it does in my alpine in the car. the AM-10 doesnt sounded like synthesized bass either, but the depth is much more pronounced in the RF7s. Then I tried Back to the Future Part 1, where the slow dance/marty playing Johnnie B Goode. When he plays that, here's my point actual point of clarity: You see everyone dancing around and one guy on the floor, snapping his fingers. That snapping, I actually heard... now thats clarity in all that music, dancing and talking. I'm so blown away by these speakers, they are worth every penny. Also, about the busted grille, I called the company, they said they would have to order another one and have it to me in a week or so. I'm totally satisfied with my experience with these speakers, Thanks to all of you and your posts/pictures that helped me decide over the past 6 months.
  11. right so, I got the speakers today. They are so huge and heavy, I had no idea. I called the shipping company this morning, and they said it would be here on thursday. Then they called back and said, on its here now, when do you want it? I said Can you bring it to me today? they said no, but you can come get it. So I took my car, and brought them back, one by one. Thats when I found out how heavy they were. The boxes were... not in great shape. There were a couple of big gouges, but the shippers assured me that the speakers werent damaged. So I accepted delivery, but I wrote on the sheet that there were these holes. At that point, I didnt know what to do, so I accepted. Anyway, tonight I unpacked the speakers, One was in perfect condition, and the other one had a dent in the speaker grille, that was facing the goughe. I will call the company tommorrow, and then find out their customer service after sale policy. I think they will honor it just fine. But other than that, everything was in there, just as if brand new. the Speakers were packaged perfectly, the only thing was that the warranty card was torn out, as they had stated. It was basically just as they had stated about the speakers. I'm just dissatisfied with the shipping company. I mean, the boxes had pretty big gouges, but not holes. I guess my immediate comparison comes to mind, when I had my Plasma TV delivered, which only had one little hole in the outer box, the inner box was perfect. Here, I guess I got lucky that the grill was facing the outside, where the box was penetrated. I havent hooked up the speakers yet. I will tommorrow. I do need to know, what kind of wires should I get? the manual says 16 guage or larger, what do you guys use?
  12. Well, I ordered the speakers yesterday, the guy said it would take 12 business days to have it delivered by heavy motor freight. I asked him if there was any way if it could be delivered before July 4th. Its gonna come from New Jersey. He told me to call the shipper, but i cant till tommorrow. When I recieved the Plasma TV, it was shipped by ground freight, but the unit arrived in almost perfect condition. the outer box had a little tear at the lower corner of the box. the inner box was seamless. They even delivered it one day before the scheduled delivery date. So, I'm definitely a believer in non fedex/ups delivery.
  13. okay, well I ordered the speakers. They said it would be here in 12 business days by truck. the guy was very helpful, lets see.
  14. do these speakers each weigh 100lbs? or together?
  15. is the shipping price any cheaper if I buy the whole 7 speakers from them at once? by cheaper, I mean shipping charge, like if it costs 200 for just the RF7s, will it cost still 200 for the whole set? is it prorated?
  16. Please help me decide, its like $150 to ship by motor freight, is this necessary, or should I just UPS it? Most sites recommend motor freight. Also, anyone experienced Absolute Audio Video?
  17. animated movies look awesome on HDTVs, definitely check it out.
  18. well, its here, and its wonderful. when watching HDTV, its unbelievable, even 1080i. After watching the back to the future DVD, I decided to spring for HBO for the summer, just for 2 channels of HDTV, but its so worth it. The quality is unbelievable. what sucks is that once you see HD, you just cant stand to watch other channels. I would upload some pictures but the problem is that my server's hd is broken and needs to be RMAed, while my laptop's firewire could work, but I realized that its the wrong connection wire. So it'll take at least two weeks before I can get some pictures up. I really dont want to give up this 42 inch in my room after the house gets built, I have got to get me one of these for myself...
  19. well, its thursday today, and my tv will be here (its supposed to be) on Monday; I cant wait for it to get here and kick ***
  20. yeah, and it also comes with a 2 year warranty instead of one, and a sexy piano black ultra shiny bezel. A good way to pick up chicks, I think.
  21. get Optical, it sounds cooler and your friends will be impressed. I would if you told me you had a fiber optic connection from your dvd to your reciever...
  22. i understand what you are talking about, but here's my take. I look at the whole unit becuause the total look of the unit affects me. It is a known fact that a black border provides a much better contrast than a grey border. This is why the grey border is a 4:3 aspect ratio is default (to eliminate screen burn) and people naturally prefer black. I have a couple of Sony TVs at our house, and the lastest one I got is the Wega, with the flat screen, and its grey border distracts from the picture, as opposed to the black borders from before. Thats why the new sony Wega's are going back to black borders. Thats why I dont like Pioneer's and apprently the new panasonics which are also grey. I also didnt want to pay an extra $2000 for the same TV under the Elite brand. Just my take...
  23. i have seen three Pioneer 50"s in three different stores, in three different situations, and was never impressed as I was with the Panasonic, I dont know why. Its picture is quite good, possibly stunning, but I liked the panasonic picture better. Maybe its just the black frame instead of the grey frame.
  24. the local best buy here has a ED Sampo, ED Samsung 42, HD Sony 1024 x 1024, Pioneer 533CMX, and Phillips HD 42. The general manager told me they are expanding to include 15 other models, and they also plan on eventually stocking the Klipsch Reference Series, or so he says.
  25. what actually sucks is that they dont have a listening room, its just speakers in a big warehouse type deal, so the sound just goes crazy and doesnt sound as good as it would in a small store like tweeter. Doesnt matter to me, I already know what they sound like. Im just gonna work there because it pays more than Hollywood Video, and I dont have to listen to that damn Hollywood Video Screener tape, you know the one that talks about all the new movies and what they sell in the store. If you've worked there or blockbuster, you would know how quickly they get annoying.
