I need to adjust volume on squawker, need help.
Mike16w replied to Mike16w's topic in Technical/Restorations
Thanks John, Would put this L pad just prior to the squawker (after the autoformer)? Also, any idea what the impediance of the squawker is? Thanks again. -
I have a pair of Chorus II speakers that I would like to decrease the output of the squawker. The autotransformer does not have multiple taps. Someone recommended an L pad but is there any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will see if there is a dealer in my area. I may also look for some used ones if they are not to expensive. -
Need recommendation on surround sound rear speakers
Mike16w replied to Mike16w's topic in Home Theater
I have a small room that is about 12X12. I would like a good sounding speaker but I have very little room to install them. I may be asking to much. Mike -
I have a pair of Chorus II front speakers and I would like to add some good sounding small rear speakers for surround sound and multichannel SACD playback. What would be my best choice for good sound and still stay fairly small. Thanks

I have seen pictures on this forum where people have lines the inside of their Klipsch speakers with 1/2" fiberglass (?) batting. I can not find any of this material. I have checked the speaker building websights but no luck. Where do you get this material and does it help? I have a pair of Chorus II that I am trying to tweek. Thanks

It is raining today (rare in New Mexico) and I am tweeking my pair of Chorus II speakers. I dampened the woofer and tweeter and that helped considerably. I tried it on the squaker but that killed the midrange. So now I am moving on to the cabinet. Has anyone dampened the inside of their cabinet and what was the results? What did you use?
-
Yes, I have also rewired the inside of my Klipsch (Chorus II). I had some scrap Audioquest Midnight speaker cable around that I used which really removed a lot of the glare. The cat-5 cables may just need to be broken in or maybe they are just to bright. I also replaced the caps in the crossover with some Jensen Oils and a large Solen. I am not about to experiement with attaching some rope calk to the drivers to see if I can get them up to the next level. Do you have any experience doing this or maybe dampening the inside of the cabinet?

Thanks for the advise. I loved the speakers but they were missing some emotion. I had read some reviews of the Jensen oil caps. I bought some from Parts Connextion and upgraded the cross over. What a difference. The speakers have really tunred into something special and that is only with a couple of hours on the caps. They are suppose to take awhile to break in but they sound excellent now. I am glad I keeped the speakers. Mike

Well, I'm new to this forum and to Klipsch speakers, but I live in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

John: Who carries these inductors? Thanks
-
I keep them. They do so many things right and I love that retro look. Mike

I have a pair of Chorus II speakers that I would like to upgrade the cross over in. The inductors listed are 3.5, 1.75mH and a 160uf. The only place I have been able to find these values in with North Creek Music. I understand the Alpha Core inductors are suppose to be the best but they do not come in these values. Should I go with the North Creek inductors or special order them from Alpha Core? Thanks Mike

Thanks for the reply: I like the speakers but they just need a little more involvement. You may be right about them not being what I am looking for. Mike

I have a set of 1990 Chorus II speakers home on loan to see if I want to buy them. I love the efficiency and they are very revealing but I am not getting the emotional involvement that I have with my Vandersteen 1Bs. I swapped out the internal wiring and that helped. Is this common for horn speakers? This is the first ones I have tried. I looked at the crossover and it's apparent that there is a lot of room for tweeking (which I love to do). Would trading out the electrolitics and inductors make the speakers a little more involving. I am running it with an Antique Sounds Labs integrated tube amplifier. I had wanted to get these in order to try some SET amps. Well that is about it, what help can you give me.... Thanks Mike

John: Thanks for the advise. I will try to wait but sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night thinking about my soldering iron and capacitors. Mike -

Thanks for the help. What wire did you use? Did you replace any of the caps? I read somewhere that you should dampen the horns with some something (can't recall).. Any other suggestions? Thanks Mike
