The Bebe, Replied a few days ago; apparently I didn’t verify a successful send-off. Would this be work an electronic/stereo shop would perform? I have a highly recommended shop fairly close, not sure what the price range should be though

Stopped by my aunt’s home earlier this week and noticed a silver face plated receiver covered sitting on a garage shelf and covered in dust. My aunt said it had been sitting there for years and that I could have it or toss it out. Cleaned it up a bit when I got home and was able to finally read the model #...JVC JR-S81W, circa 1977/1978. Hooked it up to a pair of KG.5 speakers I was using a surrounds and I honestly wasn’t expecting much. Wow, this may have been the most wrong I’ve ever been. The sound was full and the 5 1/4” woofer mover more than I’ve ever seen; not just a little, I’m talking serious excursion. I’ve had these hooked up to a Denon 2805, Denon E400, and Yamaha RX-V 2080. Non have come close to the sound of the JVC. Anyway, 2 thumbs up for vintage, and for the first time truly hearing how good KG.5s can sound. I’m thinking I Should hook it up to the KLF-30s later this week!

Hmmmm. Thanks for the info. My ears may just be bad, but I don’t hear any difference in sound between 100hz -200hz on the low pass sub filter. However I do hear difference between 100hz and 50hz. Thanks again for the response.

Hey all—been inactive a while! Just seeing if anyone knows what the sub out x over on the powered monitors is set to (if any). I’m used to using the sub out on a receiver and setting the sub x over all the way up; since the receiver handled the bass management, it was a no brained. However I cannot find any literature regarding the r-15pm bass management. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Thanks for all the info...just committed to the kv3 for, the price was within my limited "non essential-home budget". Should be picking it up this week--will post thoughts after I spend some time with it and after I finish fixing the basement from the flooding we experienced.

That is a good strategy, could be an option. I used to own a C7 but sold it years ago--I remember it being more laid back than the klf 20s I used to own--almost out of timber with the fronts. I have kg.5 as surrounds to the klf30 and, to my ears, sound better than the s6 did. That's really what sparked interest in the kv line of center channels. As I have bob crites' mids in the 30s I'm thinking about upgrading the tweeters to Bob's titanium diaphragms--including th kv-3 if purchased. Love Bob's mids--no titanium mid swap out as no desire exists to mod crossovers.

If Mark could find one for $100 I'd be all over it LOL! I happen to come across either the KV-3 or KSF-c5 for around that price.

What center channel would you recommendation for KLF-30? Thoughts between KSF-C5 and KV-3? Budget can't swing klfc7 etc. Thanks!!

When you get a chance, would you share your thoughts regarding Audyssey and 2 channel audio (16/24 bit 44.1/88.2/96 etc---doesn't matter whatever you normally listen to). Although my Denon E-400 w /Audyssey MultiEQ/DynamicEQ is in the top of Denon's LOWER end line, I am experiencing brightness for music only (HT is fantastic). Not sure if is the receiver or the Audyssey technology. Thanks!

Hi all! Does anyone know if I can somehow add a sound card with optical or coaxial out to my Lenovo G560 laptop (p6100 processor, windows 7)? I want to pass through 24/96 or 24/192 flac files to a Denon AVR-2805 and am looking for the best way to do it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks, Pat

Wow, those are primo! An excellent find, especially given the cost. On a side note, if you're ever in the market for surrounds and don't want to shell out market price for KSP-S6, the KG .5 are a good option. I currently have KLF 30s and was pleasantly surprised at how well the kg .5s matched. Paid $50 which is a LOT less than KSP-S6s. Again congrats on the good KLF 10 find!

Alright--a lot of good info here, thank you. I'll experiment with sealing/opening the vents after the project is complete. Also, I'll reinforce around the mid and do some internal damping when I end up purchasing *** tweets and mids. Now I'm going to have to put titanium diaphragms in the KLF-C7 when i get one again hahaha! I've been at this hobby for about 12 yrs and it truly keeps getting better! When i get back to the computer I'll attach a pic of the built in so far just to get an idea(cant figure out how to attach with iPhone) Will eventually put the two klf 30s on either side and, a c-7 (when i get it) in the center. We haven't installed the MDF yet for the speakers to rest on, but I'll take the suggestions and keep everything sealed initially and see how the heck it sounds....can always open the rear and side of the space later if needed. Thanks for the info, I I've read good things about the tightanium diapragms. I was thinking about getting some titanium tweeter diaphragms from either klipsch of bob crites. About a year ago I replaced the stock mids with mids from bob crites. It seems smoother and slightly less edgy. My problem is that sometimes I suffer from "paralysis from over analysis" and right now am trying to analyze the pros/cons between crites and klipsch titanium tweeter diaphragms. From my understanding I could get titanium mids and tweets that is used in the heresy III...

Do you mean building something similar with some smaller speakers I own? Maybe something that could be done with extra drywall scraps....I just don't have the time right now (50 hrs work + full time school+family of 5 = a lot of "if I had the time..." statements hahaha. Good idea though!

Hi, A friend of mine is a construction manager and has offered to finish my basement with no cost for labor. He wants to Make a built-in entertainment center with customized drywall areas to house each of my klf-30s. He said that because they are rear ported, he would remove the rear bottom 1/4 of the rear housing built-in that the klf 30 speaker would be resting in. A 6x4 opening on the bottom side of the built-in (covered By a custom air vent register) would allow the air to escape. Any thoughts on what effects this may have? He's saved me $10,000 by doing all the work and me getting builder prices for all the material so I want to allow him to do this. It will look very impressive when it's done, but I'm just curious about how the speakers will sound. Thanks!
