  1. Quintets have "lured" many of us into the Klipsch realm. Many people still use in their main theater. When I was in the Airforce I purchased a car from one of the Group Commanders (Full bird Colonel/O-6). When I went into his house he had Quintets for his theater. I naturally inquired about his Klipsch and he said "The Synergys meet my home theater needs, but I have a pair of Fortes in my 2-channel room". The quintets are a very good micro theater/sub sat system fro the price. If you seek affirmation on your purchasecheck out this review: http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_9_3/product-roundup-small-speakers-klipsch-9-2002.html Subwoofers have evolved much since this review, however secrets of home theater and high fidelity is probably one of the most respected audio magazines out there; online or hard copy (IMO).
  2. Definately a good start, I think Horn Ed may have had pictures as well.
  3. If anything is planned, count me in. Heres an idea to kick around -- There are so many threads on the charactoristics of speaker "X" vs. speaker "Y" vs speaker "Z". Or how would speaker "X" sound with SS, tube etc. If different amplification is available attendees would be encouraged to bring a pair of their own speakers. We could get an official speaker list going and try to get as many pairs of different speakers to show up--discontinued to current. Oooohh....Jay, fly down the RB-75[]; I'll show up with RB-81 etc, etc. Just a thought....
  4. Both are great budget systems that sound fantastic. Years ago, and before I bought my first pair of synergy, I did a lot of sub/sat system comparing. The Quintet II sounded "better" than the mirage AVS, Kef "egg shell" sub/sats, and JBL northridge (w/4" driver) but just edged out the definitive pro cinema 80. However for the price, it left them decibles behind If you could get both at the same price, the quintet III are good. If the II are cheaper you can't go wrong with them either. Now if its a package your interested in (with subwoofer) I highly recommend whatever system would comes with the Sud 10 or 12. The new synergy subs are much improved over the older KSW series in all areas.
  5. The sony 400 disc player (dvp-cx995v) has good video and audio for the price. I have approx. 320 discs loaded and it separates them between video, music, photo. It also files them to your needs by genre, album, artist, title, etc. It lets you load the album info by plugging in a keyboard to the from of the unit, enabling you to type in whatever information you would like to show for that disc. Haven't had to get up to change a disc since I bought it. $100.00 NIB off of craigslist.
  6. Haven't seen a game this good since Boise State vs Oklahoma, what a game! I'm still hoping Southern Cal's got a chance!
  7. Wow, what a difference from my 10 yr old $150.00 mainstream pioneer DVD player. 2-channel never sounded this good! I got a very good deal on one of these from an authorized dealer--the sound stage has really widened, and the depth...I did not know what I was missing. Music sounds so much better through the RB-81--very impressed. Mach Klipsch wth quality components and its a whole new ballgame.
  8. Ok, heres my chime... Throughout this hobby I did own a pair of RF-83 at one point but now find myself with a pair of RB-81, which I find very pleasing to listen to. They are (*insert beeslyism) "smoothly dynamic" if that makes any sense. TheRF-83 are a whole lot of speaker, and if space and finances are in your favor, well go for it. However, having owned both I agree that the RB-81 fit the bill beyond measure. I noticed they are not as harsh as the RB-5II, sound flatter than the RB-35 (Proffessor Thump correct me if my hearing is in disagreement with the response curves), and throw out a large + accurate soundstage. They get louder than I would ever want to subject my ears to (and I like it loud) and would break-up/distort far after my eardrums went. Can't go wrong with either, but I am not letting go of my RB-81. -Pat
  9. DeanG, How extensive would it be to upgrade the Xover/networks for RB-5II? I've never had Klipsch speakers (RB15/25/35/KLF-20/RF-83/KSF-10.5/KSB-3.1) sound 'harsh' until my RB-5II. Some music sounds fantastic, some unlistenable. They are so live I think I may need to tame them a bit. Thanks -Pat
  10. Thanks for the info, I have also looked at the retro receiver from outlaw with curiosity. I remember reading for what seemed like forever on the press releases of the retro receiver, nice to see a sub out as well. You stated a couple of your friends have the first outlaw HT receiver, was that the 1050? How does it hold up with 2-channel? I'm looking at a marantz pm-7000 as well; I've never heard marantz, but they seem to have a good reputation. How beneficial is an external DAC?
  11. Actually 've been conteplating updating my 9 yr old dvd player to something more "worthy" for quite some time; that and adding some type of external amp. Any suggestions for reasonably priced equipment?
  12. They are approx. 20 inches from the rear wall and 10 inches from the side wall (can't get them further out due to furniture layout). Here is a pic, please feel free to comment on anything you notice that may be a contributing factor. Thanks again -Pat
  13. So throughout this audio hobby I now have a pair of RB-5II. Minor cosmetic scratches, but picked p for a GOOD deal. My question is...are these speakers AGGRESSIVE or what? I heard they were dynamic, but Whoaa. Nothing like the RB-35/25/15 (owned all at one point). I have them matched with a denon avr-2805 and on some male/female voices the "S" and "T" pronunciation sounds very bright, on others it sounds fine. Is this normal? Is it just making lesser recordings sound, well lesser, and good recordings sound as they were intended? Or is there something a miss with the drivers? Also on guitar instramentals the "plucking" of the strings sound VERY strong and prominant. There is no distortion, just brighter sounding than the RB-35 and RF-83. Thanks -Pat
  14. If you can get the rw-10 for the same price its worth it.
  15. I must apologize for my bose blasting...with football season here and everything...well with me being a Raider fan I guess I just associated bose with Denver, or Kansas City or something. On a serious note the following is a True Story...I was stationed in Cheyenne WY from 2003-2006; so my wife and I would frequent outdoor shopping centers in the Fort Collins, CO area. Well there happened to be a bose store there and naturally, being an audio enthusiast, I decided to stop in too take a serious listen at their 301 speakers. Before I could get a word out, and immediatly following the salesman's "how can I help you" statement, my wife blurts out "Bose Sucks". With my jaw dropped, along with the salesman's stuttering of "W-W-why? " My wife exclaims further "because those tiny speakers don't have tweeters; my husband has Klipsch with horns just like the movie theaters and If the movie theaters have horns why wouln't you have horns in your home? Its the same thing just on a smaller scale." Well the salesman was a real sport, but I don't know what was more oddly compelling; what my wife said or that I still stayed to listen to the 301.
  16. Blose marketing 101 "Bose Adapt IQ" = SYNONYMY...a fancy name for every other reciever on the market with room calibration; your Yammy has this (YPAO) "Bose chooses not to publish specs, as they can give a false impression of what the human ear actually hears" = SYNONYMY...reverse false claims as seen on a 199.00 retail amp claiming 15000W of power. SYNONYM...WAR the politicion of speakers. "Jewel cube full range speaker" = SYNONYMY...90d at -1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 But to their credit they are the ultimate plug and play system...... wait...no...the CS-700 is out; sorry bose don't call me. But seriously, don't call me. Cangrats theEAR, you lit a fire under my A$$.[]
  17. I sent him an email, waiting for him to call back. The only hereseys I've heard were at a chuck e cheese's in fort collins Colorado ( yes all their speakers were Hereseys) but that was some years back. Colter I know you have had your share of speakers over the years, including RB-5; are they a completely different sound? Any one else?
  18. Oh, and they are Heresy II HBR Disregard - Not Heresy II but rather the original
  19. Someone is selling these locally for 150.00. Grills are near flawles, the veneer is peeling, but they are 100% operational. Early 80s. I have apair of RB-5II and really like the way those sound, but 150.00 sounds pretty fair for heresys. -Pat
  20. Beesley

    RC-3/RB-5

Sounds like that may be my best bet, they are definately easier to come by.
  21. Thursday is my last day of work in a food production facility, I speed walk non stop and if I wore earbuds I'd probably get stuck between a forklift and a hard place. When I worked security in the service, where a good day is when "nothing happens", everyday was spent with some sort of music playing.
