  1. Greetings all, Seeking consensus regarding using a high pass or full range for my subwoofer. Two different techs at the subwoofer manufacturer garnered two different responses. McIntosh rep says high pass. Seems to me on a "common sense" level that filtering all that signal through the sub , then back to the main amp would degrade that "McIntosh sound". Thank you in advance. I don't know much but I'm learning. System: McIntosh MA5200 100 watt Heresy III speakers SBS SB-2000 500 watt, 1100 peak
  2. I have done a search and am not finding much for results, but my RW-10d died the other day. I turned it on, it made a crackle and died. The fuse is blown, but the board looks fine, no blown or melted resistors. I found one post where the users had replaced the MOSFETs and stated theirs were working again, but that was almost 6 years ago and I was wondering if it was still working, or did it at least last a year or two? I know most people replace the plate amp, but that's almost half the price of a new sub and I would prefer to not do that. If it comes to that then I will just upgrade to a new one, as long as they're not having the same problems as I see many have. I contacted klipsch for advice and have yet to hear anything back from them also. And, if I can't fix it, what is comparable as a replacement?
  3. I have the Promedia 2.1 (the one with the power switch and transformer) system for my PC. I have had for some time now. My absolute favorite speaker. I had a couple of issues in the past that I repaired like Din plug and scratchy volume. Several months ago, I was listening to some music at a high volume. After 45 minutes, I noticed that only one speaker was working and could not hear the sub. I checked the speakers and they were fine. Opened up the sub and found a blown fuse on the HF amp. Now HF speakers work fine but the sub is very low in volume even though the adjustment on the pod is all the way up. I checked the sub and it is not blown. Measures good and tested with another audio source. Connected another sub in place and still had low volume. When I looked at the LF amp, I could see that the board was very discolored due to heat. I removed the board and found R16 and R17 to be loose. I then cleaned up the solder pads and reinstalled the resistors. I checked the fets and they seemed to be ok. I checked all the other parts for bad joints. Didn't notice any components to be damaged. I was wondering if there was a service manual for the original Promedia 2.1 (the one with the power switch and transformer)? Does anyone know why the audio would be very low? Thanks boB
  4. I have an Onkyo tx nr656, it has a sub hook up, and a sub pre out hookup, which one do I use and do I split the cable to connect to the r and l of the sub? Thanks in advance.
  5. Hello all, I have an KSW-15 that has been in storage for ever but finally got around to setting it up and the subwoofer has a rattle in the speaker itself. LFE hooked up and begins to rattle not much beyond a low volume level. Pioneer 1020 amp and tried a few settings on it. Removed the speaker and nothing obvious is wrong. Can anyone recommend a replacement subwoofer, I prefer to replace just the subwoofer. Used/new.. maybe klipsch? Other brand? 6. I've been thinking about building a set of subs to use as speaker stands for a pair of heresy II's , has anyone tried this? 12" or 15" subs? if anyone has done this and would care to share thier box design and results I'd love to see it. Thanks in advance guys
  7. Hi, I'm a new member to the Klipsch family and I have some sub questions. I purchased the THX Ultra2 system without the subs a few weeks ago and now I am ready to add one or two subs to the system. The Ultra2 speakers sound amazing but the old Velodyne CT-120 sub I am using just isn’t up to the task. One or both subs will be placed in cabinetry with openings that are 23.75" H x 22.75" W x 22.75" D unless I can place the subs in the room without giving up too much floor space. The media room is 18' x 24' x 9.' I haven’t listened to the Klipsch THX Ultra2 Subs and I was wondering if they are still considered to be great subs? Has the THX Ultra2 Subs’ performance been surpassed by newer subs introduced by other companies? Do the THX Ultra2 Subs integrate with the rest of the Ultra2 system better than subs made by other manufacturers? The following subs are being considered along with the Klipsch THX Ultra2 Subs: SVS SB13-Ultra Funk Audio 18.0C JTR Captivator S1 Paradigm Prestige 1000SW Seaton Sound SubMersive HP+ Seaton Sound SubMersive F18+ The Seaton subs are too big to fit in the cabinetry but they are an interesting option. I will be able to listen to the Paradigm 1000SW at a local dealer but not the other subs.
  8. Hi guys, not sure if anyone has any of these or if I will just succumb to making my own. I need a pair of internal sub wires. One for positive and one for negative terminal leads with female adapters on each side. Figured it was worth a try to see if anyone had a pair floating around that they didn't need. Thanks, Tim
  9. These are $1999 new, get one local (near Columbia SC) for much less and hear before you buy too! Both are in perfect condition and used less than a year. All packaging included. I have two of these available, both received in March 2015 direct from SVS, ordered in late February 2015 direct from SVS. Order number and order email will be provided too. $1550 price is for ONE subwoofer, but you are welcome to buy BOTH for $2950 if you bring cash and drive to my home. My wife has always hated how big they are and she finally won so I bought much smaller subs that do NOT go down to 14Hz like these massive subs weighing 155lbs each. These are serious and great looking subs. If you are price shopping, note that these have the newer more powerful sledge amps, while the older ones you see on ebay have the older style amp. I can also provide a copy of the original order for warranty purposes too, there is more than 4 years remaining on the warranty (between you and SVS)! These are very high quality and can do less than 1% THD at normal volume level (100dB or less) in a well treated room and can even hit those 120dB peaks if you want them to for movies. Very versatile subs as they can be used in three modes including sealed, ported 16Hz or ported 20Hz. They easily went down to 14Hz in my room +/-3dB. Any audiophile would love these, they are that impactful and accurate. NEAR COLUMBIA, SC. WILL NOT SHIP RIGHT NOW, MAYBE IN A FEW MONTHS THOUGH IF THEY DON'T SELL BY APRIL. PLEASE DON'T ASK FOR A SHIPPING QUOTE UNTIL APRIL. THANKS AND SORRY, I JUST DON'T WANT TO LUG THESE THINGS TO FEDEX FREIGHT UNLESS I HAVE TO. 11. Hi, you may notice I'm selling my stuff. It's time to downsize and this sub is more than I need now. I am the original owner and it is good shape and sounds great. One grill post is broken. Bic America F-12. Thanks, EJH
  12. Local pickup only near Columbia, SC, cash only. These were the last of the decent reference series subs (IMHO)! I bought one from a dealer as A stock, and the other from a dealer on ebay as used but it appears to be A stock as far as I know. Both look great except for the one has some small surface scratches that are only visible in direct sunlight. The scratches on the one do not penetrate the wood or anything. Two of these in opposite corners will squash any room modes and give you an experience equivalent to $5000 or more worth of subs (no BS at all)! Originally these were ~$2400 each MSRP and weigh ~80 lbs each! They also perform very well with single digit THD! I'm only selling these as I don't have corners free in my cramped theater. One mic that came with the unit I bought new is included. If it helps the deal I can get the box out of the attic for the one that I bought new. Let's make a local pickup combo deal! Also selling the following: Marantz AV8801 Preamp/Processor ATI AT2007 7 channel amp Pioneer PL-530 turntable plus free records ECM8000 mic M-Audio mic preamp Yamaha RX-V1300 and some other stuff including bedroom furniture so bring a trailer SPECS: Cabinet configuration ideal for corner placement Three extremely high-output long-throw woofers (Klipsch really means this) BASH digital hybrid amplification Perfect bass at the touch of a button IR sensor for use with select learning remotes Featuring a triangular-shaped small footprint design the RT-12d employs three ultra high-output 12-inch Cerametallic drivers (one front-firing woofer two rear-firing passive radiators) and a potent 800-watt RMS amplifier. Fitting nicely into a corner the RT-12d's unique enclosure style allows the passive radiators to face both walls of the corner for maximum output. Through proprietary DCS technology this subwoofer gives you more control and flexibility with different source material. The DCS digital user-interface offers quick and easy adjustment of all functions including three equalization modes (flat depth and punch) and five user-adjustable presets (music movie night and two name-your-own settings) to create specific listening preferences. 13. I have a SW12 that needs a woofer and a Sub 10 that needs a amplifier. The Sub 10's cabinet is great but the SW12 is fair. Free to anyone in the Cincinnati area. I will upload pics soon.
  14. Hello, I noticed last night my display was flickering on my sub I turned it off and back on a few times now it won't power at all. Can anyone help me with the steps I need to take to troubleshoot my sub? Thanks Allen
