TheEvan
Made a dash into the Purple Cow thrift store and walked out with five sweeties. 1.Deep River The Robert Shaw Chorale. 1958 RCA recording. It's on now. This is a wonderful record! 2. Espana Andres Segovia. "Enhanced for stereo" dreck, but I'm a classical guitarist and couldn't help it. 3. Marcel Dupre: Trois Preludes et Fugues, Evocation, Symphomie-Passion,etc. Pierre Cochereau aux grandes orgues de Notre Dame de Paris. A beautiful 2-lp set on Delos-fy. I have high expectations for the sonics. 4.Jean Langlais: Complete Organ Works. Ann Labounsky, organ. Casavant organ, St. Peter Cathedral, Rie PA. 3 lp release by Musical Heritage Society. Looks to be about '79. 5. Last but not least...Direct From England! Presenting the Rage of radio, the Terrors of Television, the Sensations of society, those popular gentlemen THE TEMPERANCE SEVEN. This is a Tin Pan Alley mini-orchestra in the vein of the wonderful New Leviathian Oriental Foxtrot Orchestra of New Orleans.. The kind of thing you'd hear on very old Disney or Mighty Mouse cartoons. OKAY, OKAY SO I'M WEIRD
Mallette
>OKAY, OKAY SO I'M WEIRD Takes one to know one. Sounds like one of my expeditions, and a very fun day. MHS was variable from mediocre to outstanding, probably due to the nature of the label as more of a publishing house than a record company. The Delos may be very good indeed. Temperance Seven sounds like a HOOT. Robert Shaw was a great conductor and chorale leader, but his spiritual style now sounds pretty dated and "white." No point in commenting about Segovia...decent picker, that. Let us know how they sound... Dave
