Holy cow! I can't believe it! Someone talking about an artist other thatn Billy Joel, James Taylor, Celine Dion & that Krall lady. Yes this band does indeed rule. Of course you've probably heard Tortoise, Mogwai, Glenn Branca & Labradford. Still not sure why noone listens to anything remotely "underground". I can't believe someone would actually want to listen to some of the garbage mentioned on this/these audio boards. Why not try some of the artists who are actually boundaries of sound technology. All of my ranting and raving on this board and I think I've only convinced one guy to take a chance and he bought a Lustmord CD which I'm assuming he like since he talked of buying another. Oh well tubes + horns + Billy Joel does not equal good.

I thought the guy posted about a movie.

(I'll look into it.)

Back in 1990 I was in the usual Thrash Music genre,

when the alternative commercialism kicked in with the likes of Nirvana and Alice in Chains, Soundgarden Blah.. Blah..Blah...

Some good freinds of mine the were always in some part of the strange locals bands in town, we always partied at their pad and listen to 'em play.

I'm rappin' with a guy named Rick talking about music in general and bands.

He mentions Alternative music, nad I start Blabberin' about the Grunge pumpin' out of Seattle at the time thinking that is alternative.

He retorts: NO, that may be a form of alternative, but alternative goes much deeper than that.

He turned me on to a band called Melvins that night.

'Ozma', 'and Gluey Porch Treatments'

Well yeah, this is just more garage slop grunge from Seattle(in SF now)but it opened me up to check out other bands and other genres.

From then on I always tried to try out new music.

I'll admit the last few years, I have been looking for old classic hard rock stuff that I never payed any attention to when I was younger, It's a great way to find new old music.

I found out about Butthole Surfers this way, but back in 1987 I thought they were a 'College Band'. What the F**k was I thinking?!!

I like some old 70's Pop crap, It was when I grew up is the excuse I guess.

But I have taken leads and founds the likes of Fatomas,

Mr. Bungle..etc..

I brought it up to someone in these Forums about Fatomas, but they didn't seem to take heed.

I've been checking into the MP3's at Alternative Tenticles the last few weeks.

I just ordered Slim Cessna's Auto Club 'Always say please and thank you'

It's Phsycobilly. I like it.

Jarboe is pretty bizarre, old Ex Swan member's stuff.

Lots of music there, if your into that sort of thing.

I appreciate you turning me on to 'Dark Ambient', it's not music by no means, but it's great!

Then end of that CD on SVS 16/46's POUNDS!!!

THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! Then into the WOOOWOOOWOOO

it's just Awesome! THANX!

I had a Billy Joel LP back 1978 when I was Eighth Grade, I'm pretty sure I frisbeed it.

ACDC was my freind then, BON SCOTT kicked ***!!

I think Judas Preist 'Unleashed in the east' was my first taste of real metal I guess you would say.

Sorry, long post!

Wow, I didn't think anyone would respond to my thread. I have yet to check out these other bands synthfreak since I'm in my last semester of school, but rest assured I will in the near future (Maybe I need to take a trip to the record shop tomorrow Smile.gif ). Mike, you sound like me and my brother. All I ever listened to was mainstream music til he "showed me the light". Misfits, Melvis, Minutemen, Pixies, the Buzzcocks, Generation X, The Sex Pistols, the Ramones, I could go on and on. It's too bad I was born in 1980, music has gone downhill ever since I can remember (except a few select bands: Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, anything creative). I love all sorts of punk, alternative, etc... Actually everything except country. I was wondering where all the people were that listened to anything remotely like I listen to.

I'm listening to B52's 'Wild Planet'.

I would have kicked my own *** for listening to this 15 years ago.

Geuss I'm gettin' old, oh well.

There is a few of us in these Boards.

What? you guys aren't Diana Krall fans?

I respect Eric Clapton and what he has done, but this guy has to be the biggest RocknRoll burnout has been known to man.

(Clapton should have got on the helicopter instead of SRV.)

Led Zeppelin has one good album, II.

The rest I am completly burned out on, except maybe playing 'Stairway to Heaven' backwords, with a pencil on a record player for a laugh.

Carlos Santana couldn't play guitar if he wanted too.

Hendrix was too high to tune his guitar, but a hell of guy for his time.

I like Floyd, and have quite a few, but DSOTM, who cares?!!

I like the older Syd Barrett stuff.

There is good older music out there, if brush away all the commercialized crap of the era.

KISS, I never could buy into this band, I like maybe one or two albums.

TUBES these guys are cool, 'White Punks On Dope!'

Ahh yes, the B-52's. What a fantastic band. Their songs always bring a smile to my face, and I always catch myself singing everytime they're on.
