theMonseignuer
I have an Onkyo 806 receiver which outputs 125W per channel. If I get a RC-62 (150W RMS) could i power it with the 806? I've read elsewhere the Klipsch speakers are really efficient but don;t know what that means exactly.
wuzzzer
Efficiency in a speaker means that the higher the number the louder the speaker will play with less watts going into it. Its not uncommon for speakers to have efficiency ratings of under 90 decibels. If you look at Klipsch speakers they generally run in the 95 to 102 decibel efficiency range. That means with roughly one watt going into them they will output their rated decibel amount (95 to 102 decibels or so). That being the case, under most circumstances your receiver will probably be putting less than 20 watts into the center speaker, even turned up very loudly. The 806 will power the RC-62 very nicely. willland
I have an RC-62 that was powered by an Onkyo TX-SR705 with a B&K Ref. 4430(200w/channel) amp. Before adding the B&K the Onkyo worked just fine. The B&K added some warmth and depth and of course dynamics to my setup. The 806 has a nice amp section(though not the amp that is in the 805) with 130w/channel. By the way I have an RC-62 in mint condition for sale. Send me a PM, or call me at 321-443-9364 if interested. peshewah
I don't think that a RC62 is rated at 150 watts. I think its 125 watts. Maybe DR. Thumper can chime in and clear it up. I believe the new Klipsch site says its 150 but....
wuzzzer
Says 150 watts according to site. Then again, the difference between 125 watts into an RC-62 and 150 watts into it is only about six tenths of a decibel or so. Not really anything to get worried about. theMonseignuer
Thanks for all your help everyone. Looks like I'm going to make the upgrade as soon as I can sell my RS-42s and rc-10.
