help identifying klipsch speakers, please

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of walnut cornwalls that I purchased used several years ago and have been very happy with them. My son has located a pair that he describes as being klipschs that are walnut finished and similar in size to my cornwalls but with maybe a 12"woofer rather than the 15s in mine and having another large driver on the back side. The tag on them says Type:FOR 00 RV Serial No.8927650 and then 202/32/(0418)(0501). Can anyone tell me what they are and give me any info on them? Any idea as to their age or what they are currently worth would be greatly appreciated. I can find nothing that seems to relate to them on the Klipsch web site. Thanks

i think those are not cornwalls but rather Forte (For) & think they were made the 276th day of 1989. no good idea of value, but ebay...

Yeah, I would agree that they sound like either the Forte or Forte II. The major difference being that the Forte has a 12" woofer on the front and a 12" radiator on the back, and the Forte II has a 12" woofer on the front and a 15" radiator on the back. Either way a good price to pay for them is around $500-$700 depending on the condition, and if the seller doesn't really want them anymore you can get them for cheaper then that.

Good Luck.

If they ARE Forte's, your son will love them. I just picked up a pair for $600 in oiled oak. They absolutely kick butt.

Curious, though. You said he described them as walnut, yet the OO stands for oiled oak??

Also, the model (Forte or Forte II) of the speaker should be printed in white lettering inside the plastic "cup" where the binding posts are.

Thanks for the reply Doug. Actually, the ones my son is looking at are the oiled oak, OO, Fortes, my Cornwalls are the walnut, OW, set. He had only seen my Cornwalls before spotting these he's looking at. He had recognized that they were different from mine but neither of us knew what we were dealing with before we got the responses to my initial inquiry. This is a great iformations source. I'm sure we will be back often. Do you have any idea what the RV suffix on the Type is idicative of? Thanks again for the response.

Does that date-code system still work for the Legend Series?

Thanks everyone, your replies were very helpful. I passed them all on to my son and he did, indeed, purchase the Fortes. He only had to give $250 for them, too, making him quite happy with himself. He brought them over here last night and they are currently hooked up beside my Cornwalls. We had a good time listening and comparing. The Fortes sound great but I do love the sound of the Cornwalls. Thanks again. RO
