MoparBob
Is there a big difference between a 511b and a wood horn like the ones that Al is selling? I will be using K55 drivers for some Cornscalla's Bob
seti
I think the 511b is cd/exponential? and it is derived from the Klipsch K5. The wood horns are tractrix which many say are less colored.
Blvdre
I haven't heard Al's trachorn, but have owned (and own) very similarwooden tractrix horns, as well as the 511b. The wooden tractrix, in my opinion, is much superior. Not even a contest.
MoparBob
Is it that it's a tractrix horn or is it the wood. I'm looking to build 3 Cornscalla's and trying to see if I should build or buy a wood horn or go with whats out there, like the 511b. I would think if I used a tractrix in front it wouldn't voice the same as my Cornwall's and Heresy's in the back. I missed that Al's horn are tractrix. OK what about a wood horn built like a 511b vs a 511b. I'm trying to see if it's worth the time or the money to go with wood over metal that is dampened. I haven't listen to any wood horns
seti
I can't hear a difference in materials. As long as it is a rigid boundry the material shouldn't matter. I've changed my mind more times than I can count so don't take it as gospel. Wood certainly looks alot better.
MoparBob
I have to say that wood looks cool, like the one you have in your avatar. That said I'm not sure that it is worth the hassle of time and money. That said, I think the 511b looks cool also.
Guest David H
The Tractrix horns will sound fine mixed with the CD/Exponential horns in your HT. The Tractrix horn will provide better detail an lower distortion. Properly built the wood horns will not resonate like the metal horns. The 511b however doesn't seem suffer from this due to its design structure. Wood is good.....
