BE36
Are they any good? If so which brands?
Coytee
You should be able to get them from JBL or at least, I was able to. Yes more expensive but.... why not get the real thing? In the event you DO attempt that, realize that you can order 8 ohm or 16 ohm versions so be clear about what you want. I don't remember the price, I want to say something like $100 each? Perhaps approaching even $150 each? Bad memory, don't hold me to that.
djk
10-01-2009 MSRP is $140. D16R2405, fits 2404H, 2404H1 Non-genuine parts are not worth buying (for this model). http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Goes%20Into%20List/Goes%20Into%20List.pdf Early 4612OK had the D8R075, but was -4dB at 16Khz. http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Theatre%20Series/46120K.pdf With the thinner 2405 diaphragms they were -3dB at 19Khz. http://www.jblpro.com/pub/obsolete/2404.pdf
BE36
The two local dealers I talked to only had the D16s, 16 ohms. Do you remember which service center you used?
djk
They just say 16 ohms, they're actually about 10 ohms average, with a 7.2 ohm minimum at 3.2Khz. The D16R2405 is the preferred part, unless you have blown one D8R075 and need it to match. For one or two diaphragms I use Ampco. For six of a kind I use someone different. Ampco Musical Products Inc. 6810 78th Street Kenosha 53142 (262) 697-9398 http://www.jblproservice.com/service/index.html
Wrinkles
BE36, I had one replaced by Freeman Tuell last year. I can recommend them. They are in Dallas Texas. Long time family business. http://www.freemantuell.com/ Cost was about $120 for the JBL replacement diaphragm and $20 round trip for postage.
