moonie
I just got a Roth MC4 tube amp (13W x 2) -for Ipod. Are the RB-10 speakers Ok for this low power amp ? Or, Is there another speaker I should be looking at ? thanks.
laager
90dB/W seems efficient enough for the amp if you're not expecting house filling sound from the package. However, due to the 90-20KHz range I would be looking at a pair of old Heresy speakers in order to pick up the 60-90Hz bottom end. However, the dimimuntive size of those RB-10s is pretty attractive. Am I correct in assuming the size of the speakers is quite important for this application?
Groomlakearea51
Welcome to the Forum! Laager is correct. You only have 13 watts; in the grand scheme of wattage, it's not that much, so you want to have the best speaker that: (a) highest efficiency ( have the space to put them, and © you can afford. Heritage series (Klipschorns, LaScalas, Belles, Cornwalls, and Heresy's) are extremely "efficient" as in how much sound (SPL) they produce vs the amount of power driving them. You can seriously drive a pair of Klipschorns with only 13 watts, but that may not be within the space limitations you may have or your budget. The Heresy's will do quite well, and can be had for $400 or less (usually dependent on cosmetics).... but if you have the space and can afford about $650 or so, look for a pair of Cornwalls. edwinr
Maybe the Synergy F1. They take up virtually the same floor space as a pair of RB-10s on stands, plus they work really well with low powered amps...
