The Dude
When I pulled the tweeter out of my academy today to access the crossover, i noticed this magnet on hanging off the back of the tweeter it was barely on there and the way it looks it my have been glued on is like the poles are reversed like the two magnets were pushing off one another, so it needs to be centered just right. Does this need to be there and if so will gorilla glue work fine. thanks Nick
The Dude
wow i really butchered that post, sorry for any confusion and the really big photo file.
Olorin
That's the bucking magnet and it's what makes the speaker video shielded, so if you're not using a CRT set, you don't really need it any more.
RockOn4Klipsch
olorin is correct Nick. Bucking magnet it is.
The Dude
Would removing the bucking magnet change some of the parameters of the speaker. I guess leaving it on wouldn't hurt anything, thanks for the quick responses. Nick
Olorin
Nope, on or off makes no differece. A K-76V from an Academy is just a K-76 from a Forte or a Quartet with a bucking magnet glued on the back of it.
jerohm
For all practical purposes, the k-76, mounted in the cabinet, doesn't even need a bucking magnet... even with a CRT.
colterphoto1
technically the bucking magnet can have ever so slight effect on the sound of the tweeter. But it's not noticeable compared to the sound of having an extra magnet bouncing around in the cabinet [] yeah just take it out, use it to hold paper clips but keep away from your floppy discs []
