I am going to ignore the whole 3-D thing, I have not even caught up to the whole HDMI or bluray thing yet, only the TV has HDMI and I still don't have bluray, but my DVD player died so........This stuff changes almost as fast as computers.

HDMI is dead, its hello to ethernet cord or cat5e

Bluray is basically dead to with on deman, netflix, and soon instant streaming.

Get with it Jay. Cat5e is old technology. Looks like they now have up to Cat 7. [:P] It's crazy how fast technology changes.

It will be awhile before Catx takes over (but not too far off) and Bluray will be here for awhile. On Demand and streaming video is far from being the "standard". Until they can get the quality up, I'm sticking with Blu.
