Parrot
I bought it last night, but it wasn't marked sold until this morning. Chalk up one more for Eico / Klipsch. I'll use the HF-81 to drive my 1976 Klipschorns with ALK networks.
jazman
paulparrot, Congrats. Please post your impressions of the HF81's performance and sound after it is connected to your Khorns. What are you currently using to drive your Khorns, tubes or SS? Klipsch out
Parrot
Will do, jazman. Do you still have a pair of HF-12s? I have been using a SS McIntosh MC-502 power amp, with no preamp. I just shoot the SACD player right into there because the Mac has gain control knobs.
Chris Robinson
Paul, we have identical systems. Would be interested in your +/- review after giving it a good listen. Mine is all Mullard but should sound very similar. jazman
paulparrot, I no longer have the HF12's. Klipsch out.
mike stehr
I have Jazman's HF-12's now, paulparrot. I Emailed him last night about a tube question as a matter of fact. I have one working, but haven't hooked it up to anything yet. I need to quit lurking and go do it. The other is gutted. More or less they will both be converted to a straight mono amp with two tubes eliminated in the circuit. Then drive them with a pre-amp. (Hopefully, if all goes well.) mike stehr
Hmmm... This HF-12 doesn't sound too damn bad. It's not making my Yamaha look too good. (Well, at lower levels.) Other than a few critical pieces, I best just leave these stock, or sort of. (It's nice going CD right into the amp.) THANX!
jazman
Mike, Were you surprised? Klipsch out
mike stehr
I shouldn't be. But it is pretty wild having this little Mono amp striding right next to a Top-line Yamaha amp and pre-amp. And doing better soundwise at lower levels, with less edge on the horns. I like it! Eico HF-12 and HF-81 will push Chorus II's no problem. THANX!! JCturboT
Mike, If you do decide to go with tubes let me know if you want to sell your MX1/CX1 combo-I might be interested. Thanks, Jeff
