John0392
Just realized the other day that I have an optical connection in my Pioneer CD player and I hooked it up. Is it possible that it might not sound as good as the RCA analog hook up or am I just imagining it?
speed3
John, That very well could be the case. Depending on the equipment you are connecting it to, and the quality of the cables you could notice that the digital connection would not sound as good. If the DAC's in your reciver are not as good as the one in your cd player, it won't sound as good. If that's the case, hook your analog's back up instead. ------------------ My System So Far: Fronts: KLF 10 (Med. Oak) Center: KLF C7 (Med. Oak) Surrounds: Def. Mighty Favog
It's possible that it doesn't sound as good. I may be wrong but the optical hook up is for multi-channel set-ups (i.e.- 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 etc.) So your system, assuming it's two channel, while using the optical may only play some of the program and not what has been sent to speaker channels that don't exist on your system (yet). ------------------ Tom's Money Pit

avman
the pcm bitstream is decoded in your receiver when you make a digital connection from your source. there can be a volume level change, but i'm sure you are getting a stereo signal via p.c.m. John0392
Not sure I understood some of that stuff, but I do know I have an H/K AVR500 and Pioneer CD PF958 (I think). The multi stuff mentioned above doesn't apply because this is hooked into the CD portion (two channel source I believe)and not subject to 5.1 or anything. Thanks though
soundog
If the DAC in your CD player is better than the one in your receiver then the analog might sound better than the optical, everything else being equal. However, if your receiver's DAC is better than your CD player's than the optical should sound better. ------------------ Soundog's HT Systems
