wallflower
Just got an old pair of Cornwalls with cane grills. What's the best way to clean cane grills? Thanks!
Groomlakearea51
If they are just dirty/ dusty, you can first vacuum them with a brush attachment. Stains, etc are problematic, as it depends on the stain. you can also use a thin dishwashing soap solution and a paint brush to remove most grime, etc., then wipe them carefully with a damp cloth. Allow to dry face down on a towel for about an hour or two, then turn them over flat and let dry for about 24 hours. You need to be very careful with any "water" solution, taking care to use as little as possible to prevent the water from getting into the grill frame material. It's like MDF, and can swell if it gets "soaked". Hope that is of some assistance. There are a number of others who may be able to help further or in a better fashion. mungkiman
Depending on the nature of the stain, you can also try a dry paintbrush before you start washing, to loosen gunk. When washing them, try to support the fabric so that it doesn't stretch, and wash all the cane so that it tightens evenly as it dries. If others have cane that is droopy, it can often be washed and then dried instead of re-stapled. For bad stains, you can try denatured alcohol, but stay well away from the wood finishes.
