For my 2-channel setup I have La Scalas, VRD Monoblocks, a Merlin preamp, a Wright phono preamp, and a Scout VPI turntable. I'd like to have tone controls. Any recommendations for adding tone control? Should I get a different tube preamp? Should I try an equalizer? Thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

I have La Scalas in the front and Fortes in the back. I run them all off of my VRD's (4 ohm tap). Been running this way for several years. It's optimal for me. I don't actually hear the Fortes, they just add bass and presence, which has a similar impact as a subwoofer. No time alignment issues at all. The Fortes work perfect with my La Scalas.

Just get the Oil caps from DeanG and be done with. Nothing better. They're the way Klipsch Heritage are supposed to sound.

For what it's worth, Dean made a set of crossovers for me using PIO caps and all I'll say is they surpass anything else I've tried in my Klipsch Heritage speakers. They sound open, dynamic and natural, without a hint of being overly bright. Every other capacitor I've tried sounded way too sterile. Dean's crossovers cured that problem! Dean knows how to build outstanding crossovers. IMHO, if you want great tube gear, Craig's the guy. If you want great crossovers Dean's the guy. They both know how to make Klipsch Heritage speakers sound great! Cheers! Jeff

What would be a fair price to pay for a pair of KP-362 and a pair of KP-4000 subwoofers, all in good condition? How would these sound in a home sound system? Are there replacement parts available for these speakers? Thanks! Jeff

I would suggest that if you're a fan of 70's music and you like guitar driven music (especially electric guitar), the Cornwalls you posses may be a better fit for the kind of music you prefer than Klipschorns.

The crossovers on the Cornwalls I just acquired are B2. How do the B2 networks compare to the B and B3 networks? Thanks!

I found a pair of Fortes. They seem to be in good shape, but on one of the speakers the center cover is missing from the woofer. By cover I mean the center dome that covers the woofer driver. The paper on the woofer and the driver seem to be in good shape. What negative effect would this have on the speaker? Is this just a dust cover? Does it need to be replaced? Can the the cover be replaced or does it require changing the entire woofer? Thanks for any help you can provide.

I own an Adcom GFA 555 and can attest that it's a pretty awful combination with Khorns or La Scalas. It's very grainy sounding on the big heritage speakers and sounds more annoying than enjoyable. Also, the protection circuitry on the older Adcom amps is not particularly good. I would steer clear of using that amp with Khorns.

I've got a Rega Saturn and an OPPO DV-980H...... Get yourself the OPPO DV-980H. It's simply unbelievable. It plays Redbook, DVD-A and SACD. The sound coming from the OPPO is amazing; so much so that I set the Rega Saturn aside. You can get the OPPO for $181.00 shipped. That would save you approx. $2800.00 and I'm pretty confident you wouldn't be missing anything in terms of sonic qualities.

Regarding Dave's recordings...One of the things I've paid particular attention to is the applause. Every time I play those tracks, I'm taken back at how much it sounds like real people in my listening room applauding rather than people that were recorded applauding. I concur with Dave; it all starts with the recording. Dave sure has things figured out when it comes to recording. I wish all recordings could sound that good! To that point, I've heard people describe the sound of the K-400 horn as being megaphone like or something similar. On certain suboptimal recordings of vocals I can hear that effect. However, with good recordings I here none of it. It makes me realize that so much of the sound we attribute to our speakers or other system components is really just a result of the quality of the original source.

Dave, Outstanding job!!! What great recordings. The overall effect is very impressive. Why can't all symphonic, chamber, et al music be recorded this way? Your recordings provide a spaciousness and "realness" that I've not heard in other recorded classical music. Thanks for sharing! Jeff

I've heard both the aforementioned Wilson Audio and B&W speakers, both in good demo rooms with arguably excellent electronics, and neither sounded like they reproduced anything close to "live" music. "Audiophiles" are listening for something different than the reference sound Coyote is referring to. I suspect if "audiophiles" would plop themselves down in more live venues they'd quickly realize what real instruments (and voices) sound like rather than their misperception of what they ought to sound like.
