CIGARBUM
What is the preferred material to clean audio equipment, like won't remove paint, decals, lettering or stenciling? I've got the q-tips, micro fiber cloths but need to know what you wet them with. You some of the units that have been restored and they really look nice, what do they use???? Thanks CigarBum

FireWave
Well there is a number of cleaning agents for different materials. Here is a list Anything metal: Denatured alcohol or isopropyline alcohol (90%) It evaporates very quickly leaving no residue or gunk. Don't use this on anything other than metal as it will suck the moisture out of it. Rubber: I use Windex although you could use iKlear which is a water based solvent that is guaranteed not to damage rubber, you can buy it online or at a local apple store. Plastic: Windex or iKlear Works for me. It depends on if anything is printed on the plastic. New things generally are painted with automotive paint so your fine. Wood: Use Pledge or pinesol. Deang
I use a microfiber cloth with a little bit of dishwashing detergent. I then saturate it with water and wring it out really good. If I'm doing the screen of my plasma (which sometimes collects fingerprints from the kids), I follow up with another slightly damp microfiber cloth. Old nasty gear gets Windex and Denatured Alcohol.
