moray james
A buddy has a couple ot Klipsch tweeter horns which have developed cracks at some of the mounting holes. Has anybody here had any sucess with repair? My first toughts were professional plastic welding, solvent welding and plastic epoxy repair in that order. Direction to sucessful repair techniques or products would be most welcome. Regards Moray James.
John Chi-town
Moray; Check Ebay frequently, you can find used Klipsch horns, and or complete driver and horn for very little $$$. [Y]
moray james
Thanks John yes that is an option butI would like to see if there are possible altenates to that. Have written Klipsch to find out if they actually know what base plastic is used in the horns as that would be a help to either solvent welding or adhesive repair. Otheres here may have attempted this themselves. Makes me think that flat steel washers under the mounting screws is probably a very good idea to spread the load on the horn mounting flange. Could be an inexpensive way to prevent trouble down the road. Best regards Moray james.
djk
I have repaired similar horns with solvent welding, but you have to find out which one to use. I took the horn to a plastic sign fabricator, and after several tries we found the right solvent.
moray james
Thanks Dennis that's kind of what I thought. I have contacted Klipsch to see if they can tell me what the base plastic of the horns is to save a little time experimenting. With the right solvent they ought to be good as new and some washers installed should provide a little insurance for the long haul. Best regards Moray James.
