How to know if your equipment if too hot?

I know this solution will not be for everyone but..

In the mancave I had couple of racks inserted and mounted flush with the wall (utility closet under stairs). I was concerned about heat as several pieces of my 'kit' tended to run on the warm side; wamer than I felt comfortable with.I put a couple of flex hoses in thru the garage wall and mounted duct booster fans outside so I did not hear them and let the ambient air in the basement flow around the equipment on it's way out.

Like I said not for everyone but, imagine an inconspicious collector (shaped something like an upside down dust pan) made of wood, plastic, sheetmetal, etc mounted underneath a shelf with a small flex hose with the heat being drawn away by a small, quite computer fan.

May be an option is things heat up -- wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be...

I used a quiet pc fan and just sit it on top of my Integra. Works like a champ. I use a rack as well, but left a space above for breathing room. Plus, the two crossovers above it are very short, so there is plenty of room for the Integra to shed heat during video intensive use.

I use one of these in my amp rack to help push the hot air out of the back that builds up in the top of my rack. It is 1" tall and works great. I did cut off the diverter so that the air goes straight instead of being diverted at an angle. I run mine at about 9 volts instead of 12 volts so that I can't hear the blower fan running.
