igipop
Hi all, my first post. Own a pair of KG4s in what I think is great shape. I'm the 2nd owner and pushing them with a Marantz 2252B receiver and all sounds really nice. On top of regular listening, I started using this setup while playing my TD-3 e-drums ocassionally. It all sounds great and I am not playing too loud either, but lately I noticed that the right speaker had a sustained buzzing sound when I would hit a low or floor tom... Sure enough, I started hearing it all the time, while listening to the FM radio, iPod, even talk radio. I took the grille off and it was coming from the bottom K8K woofer in one of the speakers. It still works, but the rattling lasts about a second after I hit the tom on my drums and it's bothering me. I read some posts here about lightly holding hand on the white part of the woofer cone while hitting my tom and it sounded like the buzz was coming from about 10 oclock area on the woofer, and if I would hold the woofer cone at about 4 oclock and hit the tom louder, the buzz would go away after a few hits. I would play fine without it for a few hours and then the buzz would come back the next day, so I am not sure if my woofer is damaged or is this something that will go away with time. Why does holding the woofer fix the buzzing anyway? I tried to swap the woofers to test, but after taking the screws out, it seems the woofers are glued to the cabinet? Am I missing something about taking this apart or should I just pull harder on it? Can someone give me tips on disassembling this as well please Thanks in advance! moray james
There's a good chance you simply have a dust cap starting to come off. Take the dust cap off and glue it back doen with tacky glue that you can buy in a small tube at any craft store. That is likely your problem. Your woofers should not be glued in the faom gasket may just be sticking. remove the screws face the cabinet down over the carpet and give the back a good thump and the driver should pop out. Good luck and best regards Moray James.
igipop
Thanks Moray. Well the cap seems pretty sturdy in place. I tried removing it with a vacuum clener gently but it is solid on there. I have to say that it does not look like it is coming off. I may do it as the last resort, but I should be ready to replace it with another one before I really tug on it. I am pretty sure that the buzzing comes from the outside of the woofer at about ten oclock position and even when it goes away, I am not touching the dust cap at all, still pushing on the poly cone. moray james
Does the woofer buzz when out of the cabinet? You can check to see if the vioce coil lead wires are slapping on the cone durring play. If the driver is silent out of the cabinet you may have a problem with the cabinet joint between the motor board and the side. Some white glue worked into the joint shoud fix that. See what you find. Check the dust cap glue line with a good set of glasses on and a strong light to make sure it is solid and sealed all the way around if you cannot find any other obvious issues. Good luck and report back with your results. Best regards Moray James.
Klipsch Employees Trey Cannon Posted March 28, 2011 Klipsch Employees Share Posted March 28, 2011 Good advise. The bad part is there are no woofers left. I know of no correct replacement.

igipop
Here is a thread: http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/20549/165804.aspx Good luck That thread seems to be the same problem, and probably a better description to what I am hearing. What I described as buzzing is probably closer to that raspy sound. Thanks for your help guys so far, and one thing I have not understood is why that noise goes away after I push on the woofer with my hand, and then comes back after a while... How much would rebuilding an 8" woofer cost, any idea? Thanks
