drdunwoody
I have a set of KG4 speakers and one speaker has a majorly compressed sound. There is no low end and the mids and highs sound far away. There is also an intermitent "pop". I changed speaker wire, speakers, amps, and it is clearly one speaker doing this. Any thoughts as to the cause? Is this typical for a crossover problem? Any help appreciated!
biglaz
You might want to remove the drivers and test them individually. This will help identify speaker issues or crossover issues. Good luck and sorry for your problem biglaz
Max2
Years and years ago there were some driver issues with the KG4's. I had a couple of the "white" 8" drivers that had the same voice coil issue. Luckily, Klipsch swapped out two for me which ended up being totally different because they updated them. Now I have two different mid/bass drivers per speaker, one black, one white. Personally, I would try and pick up some of the old ones or a newer style 8 on ebay or somewhere. I think good working KG4's are trading around $150 per pair, which is a real bargain IMO.
WMcD
Are you sure it is a speaker problem and not an amp problem? There is really nothing in the speaker which causes a pop. The amp could be going into a d.c. offset. This is dangerous to a woofer. Because of the danger I'd hesitate to say, just switch the speaker's left and right. Do you have some speakers you can afford to lose to run tests? WMcD
djk
Try swapping networks too. A shorted turn on the woofer inductor will cause a 'pop' sound.
