Velodyne 15 v 15+

All, Not much time to get some feedback because its being delivered Monday 12/19 and I'm thinking I might refuse it because it may not have a serious impact on my system. I've read some of the differences including amp, magnet, bracing, and electronics. Seems like a big deal compared to the older model. Anyone? Costly mistake but still cheaper than having something I don't need. Thanks, Nic

Bill, Not sure about that. Toyed with the idea of having the RT12d behind my seat so I could turn it on and off for special movies that have a lot of things blowing up and such. We are having limited seating and lots of extra room so this would be easily possible. Really though I'm partial to the Sub12 since it seems the most musical of the two and has a nice mellow tone. Interesting that the plus has that kind of thing being said about it. Thanks, anything else you said would be welcomed. Nic

Hey Nic, I didn't see this before. Those DD's don't come cheap. I've heard some pretty good things about the Epik dual empires. For 15+ money you could be talking quad empires with two 15" subs each! I've heard some pretty good things.

I'm the worst at this, but check out this link

Copy and paste it.. There's a guy that paired them against the Seaton Submersives which were supposed to be next great thing

Or if you're wanting something more musical, the JL subs are the cleanest subs I've ever heard. I'm sure the Velodyne is great. They were definitely the sub to beat years ago. However, I don't think that they're as good as other subs in their price range.

No offense to the Epik Empire, but its not got the fit and finish to be in the same room with the OP's Klipsch Palladiums.

The Fathom would make an interesting option, but my choice if you're not hell bent against ported subs would be the SVS PB13U. In terms of raw measurements by Audioholics, it compares rather well against the DD18+ for less than half the cost.

Waterfall plots indicate that the PB13 would be just as tight as the sealed DD18+

And in 15Hz mode, the PB13 offers up more and cleaner output across the 12.5Hz-120Hz band

In fact if you look closely at the SPL vs distortion charts, even if you look at the more critical (for music) 125-31.5Hz band (which takes away the major advantage the SVS will have around tuning) , the PB13 still offers higher average output and lower average distortion.

Thanks All for the great suggestions, I have a while now to make my decision but I've wanted a Velodyne for YEARS! Why? Some of it real, some ot it just the name. What I've read about the 15+ is pretty great and I think its going to stand up with the others. I'm getting a great price delivered so there's not much holding me back. I've also heard the Hsu is pretty amazing but I've just got the bug for Velodyne. I have a nice Paradigm that believe it or not sounds great. I also have the RT12d to use as a spare behind my seat for special movies that blow-up and such. Crazy....I know but I've got the room and desire. I'm a real sub nut. I just love the visceral feeling (in music as well) as much as any of the subs you mentioned would do it. Overall I'm just in love (gushing stupid) with the Velo. I appreciate you all taking the time to school me, though some of it is just over my head and probably always will be. I was a C student in physics. Probably more than you all wanted to know but I was surprised at the many responses I got and time is a precious commodity. Nic
