kg4guy
Just finished fabricating a adapter for the Faital LTH 142 Tractrix horns I got from Bob $145. pr. shipped and a pair for the K-55-M's and a pair of Dayton Elliptical Waveguide horns for my APT 50 tweeters $16. pair using them with ALK ES5800's and AP12 350's until my AP12 500's are done . I must say the sound is amazing to say the least I'm considering making new face's for my La scala's top to house the horns.
kg4guy
Back photo I will also add Bob has tested this horn with the Faital HF 140 driver it is good to 400Hz not sure about the K-55 but it seems to be doing a good job the AP12 500Hz networks will be better I think. mustang guy
That should look sweet installed in new HF motorboards. Will you mount them on the face, imbed them to be flush with a router, or rear mount them like the ones in the La Scala's now?
kg4guy
I was a little hesitant to cut the top face but after hearing the difference I'm going to do it I'll offset the board a little and put a metal mesh grill on the face.
Marvel
Did you make a transition from the 1 inch driver to the 1.4 inch horn, or simply mount the thread on adapter to the horn? Bruce
kg4guy
I glued a small piece of pvc pipe that was the exact diameter of the horns throat to the Selenium adapter and took a drum sander and sanded a angle to meet the horns inside throat. Poor mans Tractrix horn

tagger
I'm curious why you chose the Dayton Waveguide horn over one of the Eminence horns that typically comes with the APT-50. I can't find much on the performance of the Daytons.
kg4guy
Just a matter of taste and having ALK ES5800 networks gives you better control on your HF and choice of driver horn combos.

Any chance you can compare the Dayton/APT-50 combo to the Crites tweeter (same driver if I'm not mistaken)? I ask because I'm looking at the same driver to try on my current 2-way setup. kg4guy
Yes same driver I don't have Bob's horn but a pair of DIY horns I have and I like the Daytons more open and better dispersion seem to blend better with the other horns.

kg4guy
Well both are done and I'm very happy much better sounding than the stock horn .
Marvel
I'm curious why you didn't mirror the baffles for the two cabinets... [:^)] Bruce
kg4guy
The new face plates are just screwed in I can easily flip them to mirror each other just thought I would try it this way not sure it would sound any different mirrored . moray james
I am sure that it will make a difference if it's not a lot of effort flip them so they are a mirrored pair. Best regards Moray James.
