Banana Connector help w/ Harman Reciever

Recommended Posts

I just got my HK Reciever setup and I would like to

get Banana Connectors for all my wires coming into

it. If anyone could recomend a decent one that will

work with this unit at a decent price Could you point

me in the right direction. I would need 5 pairs for

coming into the reciever and 4 pairs going to my wall

plates which run through the walls to my rears. So thats

9 Pairs or so thats why im trying to keep the price down

I dont need any audiophile quality but I would like

something halfway decent.

Thanks for your time and help.

Just got off Parts Express. I found a few clips in

my price range.. Now heres another question. For hooking

up to my reciever I saw these double clips part # 090-467

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&User_ID=6379610&St=6142&St2=44105147&St3=93417230&DS_ID=3&Product_ID=2335&DID=7

Will that line up on the back of my HK reciever and reach

both holes and if so is there a benifit to using a combo

connector like this. I think these would work good on

the reciever end of the wiring. And then use Part #

# 091-1165 to goto my 2 rear wall plates.

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&User_ID=6379610&St=6142&St2=44105147&St3=93417230&DS_ID=3&Product_ID=2446&DID=7

I have 2 plates on the wall that are for my rear channels.

From there the wire goes through the walls to the rear

of the room. I have a 2 speaker plate behind the reciever

and then 2 single plates on the right and left of the

rear walls.

Thanks for the help

QUiKSR20,

The ONLY reasons for using "dual banana plugs" like those in your link are (a) a slight convenience factor - you don't have two separate ends of the cable flopping around, and (B) there's no way you can accidentally short out your amp by touching the two ends together. Of course, if you're not in the habit of pulling cables with the amp powered up, that's not much of a consideration... Biggrin.gif

HOWEVER, I would STRONGLY advise you to get single banana plugs, rather than dual. Whether they fit on the HK or not, I can absolutely assure you that they won't fit on EVERYTHING, and it is only a matter of time before you get the "let's try a different amp and see how it sounds" bug, at which point it is an absolute certainty that, if you're using dual bananas on all your cables, the new amp will have binding posts spaced in such a way that the dual bananas won't fit, and you'll either have to buy new plugs, use bare wires, or take a pair of dykes and cut the plastic housing that holds the two legs of the dual plug together. The tough, slippery difficult to cut plastic that's awful damn hard to get a grip on. Not that I've ever done that, of course.

I learned the hard way that dual bananas don't fit all equipment as Ray pointed out. I then ordered Acoustic Research single compression bananas and they work fine. Needed some more one day and didn't want to order, so went to the local Rat Shack and theirs were the same as the AR's, just with a different name label. Good luck, I like the clean look they give the cable.

I personally use Phoenix Gold dual bananas. Although I never have tried to cut them apart, as I suspect Ray did,:^) I did simply buy a power amplifier that had correct spacing for the duals, since my receiver did not. All wall plates and speakers I've ever seen did have correct spacing for dual plugs, but I haven't seen them all yet.

As cowpoke pointed out, I highly recommend the compression type single bananas. The Phoenix Gold are high quality,as the AR's appear to be.You'll tire of the set-screw type soon enough, and don't need anything except your fingers to tighten the compression type. They accept large wire and hold tight.

See part #263-582,#091-330,and #091-1260 at the www.partsexpress.com site.

Also check out www.accessories4less.com for the AR's.

Good luck,

Keith
