HDBRbuilder
PWK was always one to take advantage of an opportunity to "shoot-down" misconceptions about audio that some self-proclaimed "audiophiles" seemed to aquire over time. One of these "aquired misconceptions" he seemed to take great delight in "shooting-down" normally occurred when a visitor or visitors would be personally led on a tour of the company by him...eventually ending up in the listening room. As the listeners settled into the comfortable seating to "have a listen" to the K-horns and Belle in the three-speaker stereo array, while continuing to "talk audio" with Mr. Paul, he would turn on the amplifier and pre-amplifier, letting them warm-up to operating temperature, and he would ease the volume up on the amplifier. Then he would nonchalantly drag his finger across the stylus tip of the turntable cartridge to clear it of dust and debris, while observing the startled reactions from the seated listeners out of the corner of his eye....pausing just a moment after the very loud "WHOMPAWHOMPAWHOMPAWHOMPA" had come through the speakers, and say with his sly grin: "Hell, don't worry about that hurting the speakers, it's good for them!! It helps to keep the dust knocked off the woofers!!" He seemed to take great delight in doing this every time he handled the turntable around folks not well-accustomed to his antics!!! ------------------ I can now receive private messages
mobile homeless
Try doing this with a modern moving coil stylus/cantilever like the Benz-Micro etc and you'll be weeping in your hands... Still, that made for a great story. And with most lowend MM catridges and hearty needles, this is fine. kh Phono Linn LP-12 Vahalla / Linn Basic Plus / Sumiko Blue Point CD Player Rega Planet Preamp Cary Audio SLP-70 w/Phono Modified Amplifier Welborne Labs 2A3 Moondog Monoblocks Cable DIYCable Superlative / Twisted Cross Connect Speaker 1977 Klipsch Cornwall I w/Alnico & Type B Crossover system one online / alternate components / Asylum Listing f>s> This message has been edited by mobile homeless on 06-03-2002 at 12:58 PM
