ChipByrd
I graduated from high school in 1980. I used to lust after the great receivers ofthe day, but simply couldn’t afford them at 18. Today, I bought a Yamaha A-S1000. It was for sale locally at a great price and I figured if it flopped Icould sell it for what I paid. When Iopened the box, I found myself wondering if this is how it would have been tobuy one of those 1970’s beasts; because this thing is a beast—and heavy—and builtlike a tank. It even has wooden sides. How cool is that? But the true delight came when I hooked it up to myFortes. I was simply amazed at how goodit sounds. I have been using CambridgeAudio separates (840w & 840e), which I love and sound awesome with theFortes. I have no intention of livingwithout the CA’s, but this yammy really rocks. I can’t say it is better than the CA, it just has a slightly differentsound. Soundstage, dynamics, detail, areall there… I think. Actually, I don’treally know all of the audiophile terms, but to my ears—this yammy made music soundsweet—and right—and engaging—and just like music is supposed to sound. Pardon my gushing, but I really was not expecting it to bethis good. I have heard that the A-S2000is even better. I also read that nextyear Yamaha will be offering an A-S3000. I hope this is a sign that they are reentering the higher end twochannel market. Anyway, my neighbor brought me a bottle of homebrewed beerthat’s been setting in the refrigerator for about a week. I am going to grab that and head backdownstairs for some more musical bliss. Chip

derrickdj1
Pardon my gushing, but I really was not expecting it to be this good. Gush on, it is incredible how nice some of the vitage stuff sound!
oldmako
As much as I lust over the uber high end stuff, my habit keeps me from persuing said gizmos. However, what I have been able to determine is that some of the ancient stuff is capable of creating sublime sounds and producing an audio chub! Well done Sir. ChipByrd
Thanks for the nice comments; however, apparently I wasn't very clear. The A-S1000 is a new model. What I was trying to convey is that it has the look and feel of the vintage stuff. The other point I wanted to make is that pristine sound--simply awesome.
