He seems unaware of what the baffle step is, nor Allison Effect, and if you don't take those into account all that follows is for naught. [] I think those are probably typos in the pictures, but you're right, this and omissions shouldn't be tolerated in any technical document. Also, in looking at Fitzmaurice's charts, horn loaded HT subs do indeed benefit from corner loading without much distortion. Don't anybody be afraid to correct me if I am wrong (again...). [] What I gathered from the document was based on observation and experimentation, and not known theory as BF mentioned. There is a lot to learn from the results of his experiments. Most laymen learn in this manner, and it is good that people who understand this well correct this researchers' conclusions. That happens here every day. If it didn't I would be afraid to open my mouth. I have a LOT of misconceptions about things. If I never open my mouth, I never learn about those misconceptions. Thank God for knowledgeable people! One thing I learned was that flush mounting a speaker is close to as good as a horn loaded speaker with the exception of it's inability to be aimed without causing distortion. Better flush mount speakers have tweeters which can be aimed, but I'm not sure if you get distortion when you do this. Also, mounting a speaker flush will only work this way if well away from a corner or ceiling. I could see surrounds flush mounted at ear level directly to the sides of the listening position as being very good. A center speaker would also be good. Rears and mains which tend to be close to corners, would be bad for this, unless you are in a 6.1 configuration with a center rear. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
