The "flat" trim is what is called screen-door moulding. It was used when the grille cloth was stapled to the speaker front. It covered the staples and the edges of the cloth on the LaScalas...and a few years earlier, the birch flush-front Heresys and Cornwalls ordered with grille cloth on em. The later "rounded" trim is quarter-round moulding and was applied as a perimeter to hide the edges of the grille-cloth-covered PANELS that were held onto the LaScalas with velcro squares.....this change apparently occurred about the time I left the company in September of 1983...or a bit later.
