Daddy Dee Posted November 25, 2012 Share Posted November 25, 2012 Browsing Ebay with a son-in-law over Thanksgiving and started talking about a rebuild project, perhaps a Magnavox console pull. Looked at some amps in the 8800 series (6V6) and 9300 series (EL84). Thinking of watching out to pick up one at a decent price. That might take a while, they seem pretty sought after. Under the hood these look to both be fairly simple circuits and most are described as in some sort of working condition to start out with. I've looked at one forum member's 93xx on AK and it looked very nice. Would anyone suggest a preference for one or the other of these? Any other console pulls that would be a good prospect? moray james Posted November 25, 2012 Share Posted November 25, 2012 6V6 inSE triode mode are very sweet and in PP pentode are super ballsie. EL84 is a fine audio tube also either way but I kind of like the 6v6 if you have efficient enough speakers or you don't need a lot of level. Looking forward to seing what you do.
