Auratone 5RC Guilt!

A couple of

weeks ago, an old friend from college (The "old" part is redundant. It’s like saying , “I saw an old Corvair.” Is there another kind?) GAVE me a pair of these vintage Auratone 5RC speakers, as

well as a pair of Koss headphones. I

immediately gave the phones to my son, who says they’re great. I didn’t pay attention to the model number on

the Koss, just re-gifted them to my son.

I had charged

my friend $130 to repair some crappy mini-blinds (also redundant) in his office. When I returned the repaired blinds and took

his check, he presented me with the speakers, the headphones and some CDs.

I set the

speakers aside and just now got around to putting power to them using an un-refurbished

HK730. These little suckers are amazing.

Naturally, I Googled

“Auratone” and found what a windfall I’d received. The photo attached to this post is from the

Google search. It shows how they hook

together for easy transport. The photos

attached to subsequent posts are the actual speakers.

I guess it’s

because it’s Sunday. I felt so guilty I

went to PayPal and refunded the $130. I sent the following email:

Dave,

I've refunded your

$130 via PayPal. Those little speakers are

worth more than that.

I don't know how I'll use them, but I love

them; you can't have

them back.

Also, Ross likes the

headphones.

Congrats! Every studio had a pair of Auratones to doublecheck their mixes. I think John Albright has a pair, but I'm not sure which model. Not the ones meant for portability, though.
