FREE: Altec Voice of the Theater Cabinet (VOTT A7-500)

Projects have piled up and I now need to find a good home for an empty Altec 825 cabinet (Voice of the Theater A7-500). This was factory made and is in reasonable shape. It is located in SE Connecticut (near the Submarine Base and the Casino).. The beast is big, so shipping or delievery is out of the question. I am about 1 hour from New Haven, Providence and Hartford. About 2 hours from NYC & Boston.

I also have the original components (511b horn, 802 driver and crossover). However, those would cost money I need to quickly clear up space in the garage, so I am willing to give the cabinet away for free.

The cabinet measures 30 in wide, 24 deep x 42 tall. The horn (typically a 511b or 811 B) could be mounted on top or the cabinet could be flipped upside down and the horn would be mounted in the "port". By reducing the port size the bass extension was also improved.

For those wanting an authentic theater center channel, this is it.

Mine (circa '83 5/8 MDF 8G cabs) are plastic (or maybe some form of fiberglass /ed) angle brackett.

They are either 'in the shed somewhere' or still in place at the port and sealed up behind 1" mdf.

If they indeed 'got out' and I can find them, I'll get the dims/ mounting hole offsets for you.

I *do* have the original port tuning boards.

MC, how many do you ultimately need?

Tom, could you post close up photos and dimension of the horn attachment piece? I might try to refurb mine and that would be most helpful. Thanks! Michael

My memory is flexible.

As somone else pointed out, the piece is not aluminum. Rather it is some sort of pexiglass, It measures 26 inches wide. The outside dimensions are both 2 1/8 inches. It is centered on the top and recessed about 4 1/4 inches back. The stock was probably about 3/16 thick and secured by 2 screws, each about 1 inch from the sides.

Yet another bump for a newer and lower price.

Take this out of my garage this week and the A7 cabinet will only cost $25. Now, that is a deal.

There are also Electro-Voice HP640 horns, Altec MantaRay horns (long throw) and a single Altec 511b horn with a 802 driver and N501 cross over available.

This is garage cleaning time!!!
