simoco
OK got myself some nice kg3.5 speakers in great shape and am building a surround sound setup off of them as my fronts. Have a denon 1713 as my avr and already got the sub. Main question I have is, is the Kv3 worth the money and wait over the kv2? Was shooting at a kv3 on eBay and backed out when total cost approached $150. The kv2s pop up quite frequently, the kv3 is a little less common. Maybe i should raise my price range for the kv3. Is there another speaker I should maybe be keeping an eye out for as a tonal match? Saw a kg2.5v which was another center (book shelf turned sideways) and a ksc-c1 but not sure though how they will match. Any help on the manner would be great. Mongo171
For tonal purposes, the KG 2.2 or KG 2.5 will match your KG 3.5's. Usually (not always), you would want to keep the front 3 speakers of the same series. There are always exceptions to the rules.
chisoxpurdue
KV3 will work better with the KG3.5 than the KV2. A KG2.5v would also do the trick. The only difference between the V and non-v is that the V has shielding to protect old tube tvs. The KV3 is just meant as a center. Where are you located and welcome to the forum. Malcolm
IIRC the KV-2 was marketed as a center for the KG 3.5 in the late 90s. And IIRC the difference between a KV-2 and a KV-3 is slightly better low end response and efficiency.
simoco
So looks like it is prolly worth waiting for a kv-3 over a kv-2. As for the kg2.5v vs the kg2.5, aside from the magnetically shielding (not needed for lcd/plasma) since it is not horn loaded there are no special orientation for either? They both will sound the same when laid horizontally? Reason I ask is maybe I will pick up a set of 2.5 speakers, use one as a center until I find a kv3 then move them back to the surrounds. Is $150 too steep for a pair of kg2.5 in excellent shape? Hard for me judge what I should pay when I paid 80 bucks for my kg3.5 pair haha. Edit: Well count out a kg2.5 out as a center, too tall. The kv-3 is a perfect fit... Guess it is a sign.

Sepen
I have a KV3 in my bedroom setup. I am still surprised at the sound quality and output of it. I did throw a Crites titanium tweeter in it too.

Aj72
I used Kv-3 for more than ten years. An outstanding centre. Tried a KG 4.2 as a centre but didnt sound as good (now my rears). I now have a KLF C7 which is probably a little bit better but it depends on what your after. The KLF C7 is more laid back and handles louder volumes a bit better I think but I run it with large floorstanding KG 5.5s which can go loud and clear (all have been recently modified with Crites Titanium tweeters). If you go down the Crites road I found updating my whole speaker system was a necessary step for home theatre synergy (this means seven speakers in my case) but a great upgrade. One pair sets you back about $52 for memory.
simoco
Thanks Mongo171! The quest for a kv3 should be over. Should have a kv3 on its way to me fairly shortly. Can't wait!
