babadono Posted April 15, 2014 Share Posted April 15, 2014 So instead of saying "the clipping amplifier blew your speaker" I say "the average power delivered to your speaker (by your clipping amplifier) was of so great a magnitude for too long a period of time and that blew your speaker" Same cause, same effect. I would love to see the graphs of an accelerometer fastened to a speaker cone when reproducing sine waves and square waves. I understand that because the speaker is a mechanical transducer it has limitations as far as being able to stop at a positive or negative excursion like a square wave would require it to do.
