I saw the original but did not make it to the new version. I heard it was good, check Home Theater Mag, they will probably have this DVD reviewed in the back some where once it is released.

I saw the new one with Guy Piece. He makes an appealing oddball inventor. I saw the old one as a kid.

Period pieces are interesting and this one was good for that. The time machine itself was a work of art. It is a challenge to artists these days to create a Victorian time machine which works, even in the imagination, without electricity or computers.

I never quite "got" H.G. Wells theory of the future where there are two products of human evolution. One being peaceful victims and the others being preditors. Perhaps it was a comment on what he saw as trends in his own time. True today? Maybe.

If it is a "message" it doesn't quite hit home as deep philosophy.

I don't recall much about sound quality. The theater where I saw it was not particularly good.

If you want advice, rent but do not buy the DVD / tape for a first viewing.
