ZEUS121996
I'm trying to make a set of grills for the 73 vertical Decorator Corns I'm picking up. I know Groomlakearea51 did a tutorial on how to build thew grills and stretch the cloth but I can't find it. Can someone provide the link for me please? ZEUS121996
do you have the grill boards made yet and what part of the country do you live i might have a blank vertical grill board here somewhere that i made Russ i'm just south of you in Crystal Lake Il. I'm meeting Lyle next Saturday in Janesville. I was going to use the motorboard and trace it onto the masonite after taking the guts out. I'm going to spray paint the inside anyway so its not that much more work. If you had a grill board, it would make it easier tho Thanks to everyone for the links Mark
Budman
i'm in cincy, ohio thats what i did. i removed the 17 screws that hold the motorboard in and used it for the template to cut the openings on 1/8" masonite. i think you can get 5 boards out of one sheet EDIT if you have verticals the motorboard doesn't come out, plus i think decorators are a different height than regular cornwalls i guess you will want to add the molding around the front Edited February 27, 2015 by Budman
ZEUS121996
Russ The plan is to put the molding on, measure and cut to fit the grills ( masonite) and then trace the motorboard onto the masonite from the inside. I just have to remember to leave room for the cloth to fit inside the molding. Mark
Budman
from what i remember you have to cut the masonite1/16" smaller on all 4 sides for the cloth
ZEUS121996
Thanks Russ I have everything ordered for the rebuild, now I just need some warm weather so I can use the paint stripper outside, it seems to kill anything that gets near it. I hope this works out like I imagine it will, I really dont like the look of the Decorators. Se what happens Mark

Budman
biggest regret of my collecting cornwalls was getting rid of these Edited March 4, 2015 by Budman
ZEUS121996
God those look great. Unfortunately, mine need bondo work so my plan was going to paint the front, back and woofers satin black and then veneer them in walnut to match my Belles, adding trim and grills. Now you're making me think which is never a good thing Mark
