garyrc
Audyssey should sound fine, but it takes careful set-up, using all 8 mic positions for the version you have, and careful following of instructions. In my system, it improves the sound quite a bit. If the Denon manual is as bad as most, see the AVS forum under "Offical" Audyssey Thread and look for "Audyssey 101" and, especially, "Audyssey FAQ." There are two competing sets of Audyssey instructions on AVS; the good one can be found through a linc in the signature of Kbarnes701. The other one is full of ****, if it is still there. Have you tried several recordings? A few recordings have SSSSS on them, so good reproduction will reveal that SSSS. If the problem does not happen at moderate volume, your Denon may be clipping, or your speakers pushed past their limits ... but I doubt it. How loud is loud? Do you have a Sound Pressure Meter? If you do, measure your loud level with "C" weighting, and let us know. Edited September 16, 2015 by garyrc
