robbiey60
Hi guys I am wondering if anyone has directly compared any of these speakers for music listening? I have rf83s and rf82iis and the difference is clear. With the new horn supposedly taming the highs how do they stack up against the smooth reference iv flagships? My friend is getting a system for christmas at my recommendation and will be getting rp260/280f depending on price so I can compare then. Please note I am not implying the reference premiere can directly compete with older generation flagships but I am interested to know how close the new horn brings them. On a side note I also hope the rf7ii replacement (when or if it comes) is a newer version of the rf83 with a larger version of the new horn style- similar in style to the wireless set I have seen pics of. robbiey60
Anybody compared these yet? Lots of talk on how good the new horn is, but how does it compare with the 1.25" 6" tractrix combo? I am setting up my friends new system when it is delivered this week, he managed rp260f, rp250c, r15m and 2 10" velodyne subs. A pretty decent step in the right direction for him considering he still thinks his 10 year old sony mini system "cranks".
Scrappydue
I've owned the 260,280 rf-63 and rf-83. As far as smoothness I'll give it to the rp. However the clarity is not there on the new stuff as it is with the rf-63/83. I don't think it has to do with the horn as much as the 1" vs the beefy 1.25" driver in the 63/83. It's a much more powerful compression driver and is very clear IMO.
Coleman
I really liked the 280F's when I heard them. Scrappy hit it on the head. The 280F is much smoother. I still like the clarity though of my 7II's and can't speak of the 63's or 83's as I've never heard them. I did own the RF62II's though and I would still take the 280F's over them because of the smoother high end. So basically I think we are both saying the 280's are better then the 1" driver in the older reference but when it comes to the big boys like the 63's, 83's and 7's then they trump the 280. Does that make sense lol?
robbiey60
Interesting. Thanks guys. I have only heard the rps in a shop so far so that doesn't really count, I am looking forward to hearing these rp260fs and twin 10" subs with some music. Perhaps we are in for a very musical flagship when it arrives?
